Grateful to @kvox.bsky.social for the invite to attend tonight’s City Arts & Lectures talk; I’ve already read 70 pages on the BART ride home. It’s spectacular. Support government workers. Thank those who serve(d). Shine a light on their work.

Hi, I'm the guy who used to oversee the federal government's agency IT telecommunications contracts. This is extremely bad. There is absolutely no need for this. Not only is it a huge security exposure, but the simplest explanation for this is that it is meant to be a security exposure.

did you ever hear something that's so blindingly obvious yet something you'd never ever considered and it hurts your brain? Subway winning because they don't need gas 🤯

Saw Paula Poundstone perform Friday night; she was at the top of her game (for 2+ hours!!). What struck me was how *furious* she was at Trump, and how hard she leaned into it. Lots of applause, lots of cheering for giving voice to the anger. "It's going to be hard, and it's not going to be quick."

been increasingly annoyed w/amazon's dark pattern of "arrives tomorrow morning by 8am" and then default setting shipping on the order to the slowest possible arrival time. You have to manually override the default to the shipping mode that actually produces the advertised arrival time.

WSJ EDITORIAL BOARD: “.. We said from the beginning that this North American trade war is the dumbest in history, and we were being kind.” @wsj.com www.wsj.com/opinion/dona...

Split Fiction is a a delightful new coop game on PS5. Great premise, fantastic graphics, lots of clever references to other games / genres. Tons of fun.

Seeing Booker T at Yoshi’s tomorrow night. (The music Booker T. Not the wrestler.) Look at this man’s collaborations: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booker_...

Some of his readers have asked Mike Masnick @mmasnick.bsky.social why his technology news site, Tech Dirt, has been covering politics so intensely lately. www.techdirt.com/2025/03/04/w... I cannot recommend Mike's reply enough. It's exactly what readers need to hear, what journalists need to do.

"you now have access to o1, o3mini, o1 low medium and high, 03mini low medium and high, and 4.5 Pro Max Platinum+" (ok fine I made that last one up) but seriously, "o3mini medium" is a real product name?

The Bay Area weather radar (KMUX) has been out of service for more than 24 hours now. An expensive broken part needs to be replaced and specially ordered, but that may not be possible due to ongoing freeze on government credit card spending, I’ve been told.

This is a bigger issue than people realize. Not just jobs lost. But their families losing benefits. Landlords losing tenants. Cities and towns losing revenue. This is how recessions start Ready Fire Aim is no way to govern.

This by @ethanmarcotte.com is exceedingly well said: “the billionaire's so-called ‘efficiency’ ‘department’ is best understood as a sprawling form of procurement capture”

How Elon Musk planned for DOGE: Our investigation found that he raised the idea in 2023, becoming fixated on gaining insider access to federal systems. By Dec., he chose USDS as a landing place, and future DOGE members began applying for jobs there. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/28/u...

the most surprising and disappointing aspect of becoming a global health philanthropist is the existence of an opposition team

One of the joys of parenting is that they grow up, become adults, and remind you of important moments you’ve shared over the years. Like tonight when my 24 y/o son reminded me that today is the 13th anniversary of “who do you think you are? I AM!!!” Proud Dad. 😅 youtu.be/gKQOXYB2cd8?...

This child's death is on every Senator who voted to approve the appointment of an anti-vaxxer to run HHS. I just read that it appears that we're not going to have vaccines for flu and Covid next year. How many more deaths?

Here we see Chief Justice Roberts pretending that it's unclear whether the federal government is obliged to pay vendors for work that they were hired to do, and then did, just because the federal government has decided they don't want to spend the money. apnews.com/article/trum...

Our editorial line is to support free markets. Here’s why we will never criticize Trump’s tariffs. by Jeff Bezos

I just designed these post cards and ordered 2500 of them to hand out, mail out (so carriers and postal workers can see them!) and distribute in other ways. I'll make them available for the cost of printing and postage, but if you'd like the design files so you can get them printed yourself, DM me!

Ten years ago we lost a great man and faithful priest who transformed Notre Dame and touched the lives of many. Get to know Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C. 🧵

Tired: Washington Post Wired: Wired

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

Kinda want to re-subscribe just so I can cancel again. How sad

Within the span of 90 minutes on Tuesday morning, two airplanes, at Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport and at Chicago’s Midway International Airport, were forced to abort landings to avoid collisions, federal aviation officials said.

🧵 The news about the illegal terminations happening across the federal government had me feeling both angry and powerless. Fortunately, I found a simple way we can help. Today. Read on... (1/7) www.cnn.com/2025/02/20/p...

El Capitan displays a massive American flag upside down—the traditional signal of distress or extreme emergency.

huge thanks to @rickklau.com for this thread & for supporting #TechnologistsForThePublicGood - any of you that can join him & us in getting resources & community to fired federal technology workers, I'd be most grateful for any contribution!
