Walking on the Baltic sea

This really is beyond shocking. Imagine if someone said this to every public sector worker in the UK

🌍🛰️ Almost 40% of glaciers in Central Europe were lost between 2000 and 2023. A new study, using data from various satellite observations -including our CryoSat mission- reveals alarming insights about the declining rate of glaciers. Read the full study🔗 esa.int/Applications...

Pres Trump: ‘I think Europe has given $100bn [to Ukraine] and we’ve given, let’s say, $300bn plus.’ The most reliable figures show the EU has given $138bn to Ukraine, while the US has given $114bn. In 2024 Europe and Canada provided nearly 60% of NATO’s security aid to Ukraine.

A bright sunny day makes temperatures below freezing feel pleasant. A reminder that Spring will eventually come with catkins developing.

Reform don’t want a net-zero future apparently. But two of their most senior people are investors in the industry…?

Labour’s promoting growth using unproven and dangerous technologies youtu.be/UwT5LLmZYAc?... Labour is promising growth based on carbon capture and storage, new nuclear power stations and sustainable flying, and none of them are known to work. They’re gambling on economic fantasies.

❌ Food banks shouldn't need to exist. ✔️ We should all be able to afford the essentials we need to survive and live with dignity. Repost if you agree!

Quick reminder that in 2022/2023, members of the “Independent Healthcare Providers Network” (private companies) provided a grand total of 109 doctor training placements. That’s compared to ~75000 overall! Private companies don’t ‘save’ the NHS-they poach its staff🚨🚨🚨 www.ihpn.org.uk/wp-content/u...

More wintery weather on the way. Frozen lake 🇫🇮🇫🇮

It's now official. January 2025 was the warmest January on record globally according to ERA5 reanalysis. Thanks humans! 🔥🔥🔥

In the brief relief of ice free paths, I took my studded boots to the cobbler for replacement studs. 15 replaced. It's been unusually prolonged hard ice conditions this winter. Global warming giving us more melt than proper snow

Mild temperatures for two weeks and the ice has receded from the paths. There's even greenery on the ski track and birds are singing thinking it's Spring. At least two more months of hard winter remaining.

Wow @lordsugar gives Brexit full reality check and fhe BBC broadcast it! 'The biggest disaster in my lifetime was us leaving the EU' “If I was PM, I’d be coming along on my bended knees asking to be allowed back in.”

This article from 1941 and Laurence Rees's new book, The Nazi Mind, are essential reading today.

The previous week of temperatures above freezing hasn't negated the need for studded boots.

agree that the headline findings are disturbing, but what is even more wild is the stat that a third of middle aged Britons apparently want a revolution

Julie Gray, wife of Holocaust survivor Gidon Lev, who joined Musk in his visit to Auschwitz speaks out. She says that Musk felt nothing during the tour & only "cared about how he looked." She shared this with me privately shortly after the tour, and I'm grateful she made her thoughts public.

If true, what Labour front bench is doing is unforgivable. The #CANBill is essential & has backing of huge number of experts, scientists, unions & enjoys cross-party support. If backbench Labour MPs ever consider rebelling against leadership on anything, let it be this - a liveable future for all 👇

On the left, plain chicken. The right with additional flavourings and much cheaper. Less is more € 🤪 Common in Finnish supermarkets. Is this a thing elsewhere?

Who would want to live in Finland for the winter?

The “People’s March” against Trump in Washington

NEW: The great Trump-Musk crackdown is coming. And it will hit hard & fast. Journalists will be first. But everyone else is next. I urge you to read my 20 lessons in How to Survive the Broligarchy, inspired by & featuring the great @timothysnyder.bsky.social 1/ www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

When billionaires take control of vital communication platforms, it’s not a win for free speech. It’s a win for oligarchy. And when those billionaires justify their business motives by citing “freedom,” what they actually seek is freedom from accountability. Don't be fooled.

The fact that so many are being taken in by an insane pitch from right wing politicians that the UK needs to leave the ECHR - based on a wildly inaccurate & misleading premise - is an indictment of UK media’s inability to call it out Leaving the ECHR will undermine all our rights. It’s that simple

Lights at a neighbour's cottage, overlooking the field, and the twinkly lights of more houses on the opposite side of the lake. A line of horizontal light reflected from clouds over the nearest town, beyond a ridge.

Unless you can name a policy that is doing MORE damage to our economy than Brexit... Then it's kinda weird for anyone in politics NOT to be obsessed with Brexit and those responsible for it.

The rich don’t spend enough – and that means they shrink the economy youtu.be/D7uZrF_hqE0?... Most of any country’s saving is done by its wealthiest people. But because the rich are obsessed with staying rich they save in unproductive ways. The result is they drain economies of productive spending.
