We should focus more on the chicken-little nature of this lying administration. Of course they know it’s made up but we should demand proof.

I wonder why we seem to have accepted the emergency declarations under which much of this is being done. Obviously, Congress and the Judiciary are accomplices but I believe we should call out the lie as often as we can.

Much as I don’t like hitting the pocketbooks of hourly workers at many of these companies, I also believe that their unlimited financing HAS to come with some political responsibility. This is about the only way to get their attention.

Why aren’t more people calling out his ridiculous dream of 1890’s America!? Only the crazy old uncle in the overstuffed lounge chair should get away with such idiocy…especially since he likely believes it.

I am sure some rich sycophant will offer to pay the judgement for a favor or 2. Isn’t that how the new streamlined policy guidance works?

And if we believe that obliteration of any lefty initiatives is their sole motivation (and I do) then solar certainly was a big part of the Green New Deal. Probably worth triple points for early Plan 2025 drafter to gut anything remotely associated no matter the benefit.

But we have more in store! The DJIA hovered around 80.00 in 1913 so we have a long way to go to reach our goal!

THANK YOU!!!!

Great legal coverage of a malevolent trump effort to limit voting. I urge you to start future discussions as you ended this one...this is a policy without basis in reality. We MUST start any discussion saying that this is 1) without basis in fact & 2) impose unfunded mandates. Throw the BS flag!

Blaming speed is generous. Ego is likely responsible for 90% of the ready, aim, shoot approach.

Space X won’t be only musk grift with Trump…wait until he introduces the doge government services APP. Anyone who doesn’t have a smart phone can just whither away. Young voters will love it!!!
comment in response to post
This makes perfect sense particularly if you believe that trump wants simple solutions no matter their efficacy much less morality. Vlad and Xi get their turf with some left for the Modi’s and maybe MbS’s of the world. Everyone else pays to play. Simple!

I bet Musk presents some on-line replacement for HHS that he’ll run for a small fee. He and VP Trump will turn their backs on those FOX viewers who aren’t connected. But then the older MAGAs won’t vote in too many more cycles anyway.

So, would most reputable economists scoff at this idea as sophomoric as I do or…is there some weird analogy between McKinley’s America and today’s economy? If there is no sense to this idea, why aren’t CEO’s and economists shouting from the rafters?!?!?!
comment in response to post
Any chance that US business regrets NOT calling out trump on tariffs BEFORE the election? Any chance shareholders will punish them for their ambivalence? How about CEO’s buying access currently? Their complicity is stupefying.

trump must be furious that his attack only increased support for Zelensky @ home. He has no concept of people preferring freedom even at the cost of war v. Glitzy hotels and exclusive beaches for the rich. trump is a hollow soul.
comment in response to post
We’ll get a portion of Trump take to off-set those pesky taxes…And please explain DOW surge today???? Russian money in response to Zelensky ambush?

It’s not just the immediate loss of expertise. Wait until stories of Chinese and other governments scooping them up start filtering out. We are losing the opportunity to shape the future discussion. Their rhetoric assumes closed borders. The world’s problems largely ignore borders.

And I believe that the headlines for articles are written by senior staff, not the person on the by-line. Anything on front page gets serious attention before making the cut. Accuracy in headlines is important as I am sure many people reference stories based solely on a glance.

It boggles the mind how someone so financially well off can be so insecure. More evidence that $ is not happiness. I fear nothing will be “enough” for this crowd until there’s literally nothing. Then Bezos will wonder how he got outsmarted and left behind.
comment in response to post
Not a bad idea to portray Trump in sheep’s clothing. Hard as it is, I do believe most maga are genuine in their support and trust for someone who is selling them out.
comment in response to post
Hard to believe the groveling at all levels. Waiting for “Sun”-like page 3 pics to lure back readers in further ingratiate macho maga.

Until researchers figure a way to pay trump, he’ll never see their “value.” I am sure wealthy foreign oligarchs will more than make up the difference and of course kowtow.

I spent over 30 years convincing political and corporate leaders that “boring” has a price. Though musk and trump are extreme examples, most c-suites ignore all but most obvious risk coverage. When the bad thing occurs there is always a scapegoat and momentary compassion. Next.

Where are the originalist facilitators!!! Are they the next collaborators to pay dearly for their fealty? Sad watching history repeat itself.

We rightly highlight Ukrainian refugees but forget the Russians who fled and those who hope for change. We have also crassly abandoned them chasing shiny objects.

IF we ever deliver humanitarian aid again in this administration, it will be branded “trump” and have some grotesque pledge of subservience behind it.
comment in response to post
He wants to create chaos so he can restore order under some Emergency decree that will never be revisited. The budget battle (hopefully Dems will fight) will likely reveal some of the rhetoric he’ll use. I sense same w/Ft. Knox BS. Is crypto safer? A grifter is gutting the country of its soul.
comment in response to post
Agree. He can’t wait for 3/14 budget crisis so is throwing bureaucratic tantrum. He’s daring us to try…if we do he has an excuse. If we don’t the monarchy is born. Why does everyone seem so oblivious!?
comment in response to post
Against the truth and any independent media.
comment in response to post
You assume they expect to hold elections. I wouldn’t at this point.
comment in response to post
I am watching the approaching iceberg, and the glee our fellow citizens express, in horror. I also imagine the CHAOS crowd using the moment to declare an economic or even political emergency to seal the takeover. Our Rubicon moment may be near.

And the Right seems poised to try the same in Europe. Now believe there is some tacit agreement btw trump, Putin and xi to divide the world. They convinced trump that he is safe…no need for military or intell agencies. Cannot wait for them to dump trump like he’s done his US sycophants.
comment in response to post
I also believe that MAGA and their global allies are so confident in their eventual success that they have divided the world between Trump, Putin and (oddly?) Xi. All you need is mafia-style spheres of influence and enough military power. No real need for diplomacy, or international standards.
comment in response to post
I suspect that infuriating the libs is very satisfying for trump, I also suspect ulterior motives related to rebranding it (Trump Casino???) or razing it entirely for a new Trump hotel. He'd love nothing better than for everyone to drive by one of his monstrosities built with other's money.
comment in response to post
Keep the truth coming Kai! This story, like today’s Marketplace close, gives hope that we aren’t alone in our shock at their disregard for decency. It seems the entire MAGA platform is destroy first and then find something else to destroy.
comment in response to post
Financial reporters should counter the misperception that public service is quantifiable in private sector terms. Professional efforts to keep us safe and desease free should never be monetized or tied to personal allegiance. It takes a lot for our lives to be so worry free. We'll miss them.
comment in response to post
Just wait until top-down propaganda has its desired impact. Soon MAGA military parades will honor Vlad in D.C. Past diplomatic and humanitarian aid efforts will be called criminal. No matter, they’ll keep trashing us and suppress opposition voices.
comment in response to post
Anyone concerned about SEC Treasury delivering the ultimatum v. Secstate? Just strikes me that future foreign policy will be all about $ and nothing about values. I’m not sure they’ll be enough soap to wash the bad taste out.
comment in response to post
So far I prefer Woke expertise over MAGA purity of thought…anyone else?
comment in response to post
there will be many more stories like this one. I can only imagine the attention DOGE geeks are getting from smoking hot women (or men) all of the sudden. Of course the twenty-somethings will NEVER fall for the flattery or sex and give away our entire government. We know that right?!
comment in response to post
Hard to believe that we are so insular, but we are. Someone needs to hold a rally with farmers whose crops supported many of the food aid programs. Then, maybe, America would see the impact of these capricious cuts.
comment in response to post
This is not Musk's coup. He is but another convenient dupe for trump who will eventually claim ignorance of what is happening. This is a MAGA coup meant to clean up the past and remove barriers for future grift. We are in for a series of real estate deals with DoD enforcing compliance.
comment in response to post
I agree with speculation that this is a bone for Xi and Putin. I also suspect that any new aid will be contingent on a personal pledge of allegiance AND be branded with a stolen family crest with a gold embossed name. Whether it's Trump or Musk is not yet clear.
