The question isn’t whether Budde was right to speak up. The question is whether the rest of us will have the courage to join her.

"Russian asset."

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

The conditions that US is demanding of Ukraine are more onerous than those imposed by victorious allies on Germany after WW1. This isn't a security guarantee given by an ally; it is, pure and simple, the plunder of a country, in exchange for almost nothing. Vile. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/w...

Last week: Correspondent @stevanzetti.bsky.social identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media, and courtroom observation.

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

In a suit brought by 19 Democratic attorneys general, a federal judge in New York on Friday night in a preliminary injunction blocked the U.S. DOGE Service from accessing the Department of Treasury’s payment systems.

‘You do not treat people in this manner’: Alaska Sen. Murkowski condemns Trump firings, other acts, reports Corinne Smith, @corinne-smith.bsky.social, of @alaskabeacon.com: alaskabeacon.com/2025/02/21/y...

I hope there is some media outlet, nonprofit institution, or university that has set itself the simple task: *remember this*. One of the most shocking & disturbing things about Trump's first term was how the vast bulk of it just vanished down the memory hole almost as soon as it happened.

This is how it’s done.

Trump’s EO ruining the independence of federal agencies shows the real goal of Musk and Trump is not efficiency or even winning the culture wars. It’s thievery. And they are *exceptional* thieves. My latest in @thenation.com

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

TRUMP: The NCAA has complied immediately. That's good. But I understand Maine -- is the governor of Maine here? JANET MILLS: Yeah I'm here TRUMP: Are you not gonna comply? JM: I'm going to comply with state and federal law T: You better do it bc you're not gonna get any federal funding at all

There’s not a word in this story about the corrupt nature of this dismissal. Not a concern voiced, not a question raised, not even an acknowledgment that he’s the president’s biggest donor and he’s acting as an unelected, unconfirmed tyro wielding unchecked power over spending and the civil service.

"AI" is, purely, a marketing term and a (poor) umbrella phrase for a number of different types of computerized statistical analysis, iteration and synthesis. If something is being touted as "AI" to me, it's because someone wants me to buy it, and also I probably don't need it.

"What can Democrats do?" is the wrong question. Ask, "What would John Lewis do?" www.cnn.com/2016/06/22/p...

New in PN: AOC shows how to fight back and stand strong "Prominent figures standing up can undermine the climate of fear that MAGA relies on to impose terror. AOC’s work on behalf of her constituents and refusal to be intimidated are models of resistance other Democrats would do well to imitate."

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

AOC is showing what resistance looks like; Schumer, Hochul, and the rest of D leadership not so much. www.publicnotice.co/p/aoc-homan-...

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

"I look cool. I am cool," he repeats to himself, as he carefully tucks his T-shirt into his pants.

Mom, come pick me up, they're coming up with the silliest possible version of the Great Man Theory of History

Con artists exploit cognitive dissonance. People who are raised ethically often cannot fathom that others might violate norms and laws. This can create mental and emotional blind spots that con artists can exploit. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Azso...

Laid-off IRS employee said he had voted for Trump: "I thought that someone with his business acumen would have come in with a fine-tooth comb and actually found it instead of coming in with a wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason." www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/p...

Donald Trump’s embrace of America’s adversary and rejection of its ally has been so swift and complete that even top Kremlin officials are astonished.
