The daphnes have been in flower for ages, actually. And I saw a pretty huge bee collecting whatever it is that bees collect. Nectar? Thatā€™s it probably. (Iā€™m not a naturalist.) šŸ˜†

I suppose itā€™s good that we will be spared more recent Russian picklings: in the sense that once someone has ā€œjumpedā€ off a roof or out of a 14th floor window, pickling becomes less of an option.

Isnā€™t ZeroHedge a UKIP guy from Essex?

The police are not the other side of the argument. The complainant is, and the story gives no details about the grounds of the complaint.

Well, if heā€™s planning a visit to Putin, you might get your wish sooner than you think.

OK - Iā€™m still a long way off peak fitness, but I have 7 weeks to go to the Zurich half marathon, and thatā€™s plenty of time to make good progress. Iā€™m wondering about scheduling another race in June (if I can find one, thatā€™s flat and fast and not too hot), but letā€™s see how Zurich goes firstā€¦.

I might be taking this from a much-loved but not always 100% reliable podcast, but rubbing an ice-cube on your forehead in the shape of a letter L?

What colour is the carte grise in France? I mean, it sounds like a stupid question, but in Belgium the carte grise is pink. Iā€™m not sure about now, but when I first arrived absolutely everyone used to call it the carte grise despite it having been pink for many years, and it was deeply confusing.

Nowhere near.

ā€¦and whilst the Administration is excising specific words of which it disapproves from its websites, is demanding that scientists not use those words in their research papers.

I avoid following any his money saving tips 1. By living in a different country and 2. By invoicing him for the leisure time I would have to spend switching my gas supplier (at overtime rates) and insisting that the proceeds of the saving must pay the invoice plus a significant premium.

"I do miss the disagreements on Twitter," says hard-hitting columnist [A], "absolutely" says contrarian [B], "This!" adds disruptive commentator [C], all three then approvingly quoted by scathing [D] telling us how it is, which is then RTd by [E], always unafraid to break cosy consensus. And so on.

The narrow and tall warming oven is fantastic for meringues and slow cooked stews etc. And if you fancy chancing your arm at a baguette, the wide oven is the correct width.

Lacanche do large ranges with either two equally sized ovens underneath, or one wide oven (for, say, a small suckling pig or a very large turkey) and a thin tall warming oven. So a lot depends on how often you want to roast a suckling pig. I have the wide oven and have never regretted it.

I see people in the replies recommending Lacanche: my Lacanche has exactly the specifications you want, except that itā€™s 100% gas. And has served me perfectly for more than 20 years. So if they are now doing electric versions of the same quality and durability then go for them.

Iā€™m not sure what the correct name is for the hapless person who types in the text that appears on the screen. But tell the itā€™s spelled tariffs, FFS. I donā€™t say FFS to be vulgar: I say it to be helpful.

And then tomorrow we start to build up gradually with lots of fairly short speed work for three weeks or so. In the forĆŖt des Soignes this morning it was freezing cold, brilliant sunshine, bright blue sky, frosty paths. Really invigorating, and so welcome after the months of sullen drizzle.

Absolutely. Except that both Canada and Mexico know that they have excellent, predictable and rules-bound trade relations with the EU.

It must have been a daunting, difficult and sensitive project to have worked on. But, for me, it was an example of the BBC, and Radio 3 in particular, at its best. Maybe some people will disagree for whatever reason. But, for me, it was a serious endeavour. And today, that counts for something.
