Not even the end of February and the garden is showing plenty of colour, discreetly and mutedly.

So, so many hours of wonderful piano music by Schubert @petroc.bsky.social and yet on Radio 3 you’d he’d written those impromptus and nothing else. They’re charming. But not twice a day. 😆

I just read that the new PS-MR (socialist-liberal) coalition council of Ixelles (that replaced the #Green led coalition) celebrated the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine by *taking down* the Ukrainian flag from outside the Ixelles town hall. Can’t *possibly* be true? #Honteux

When I worked in UK academia I recall hearing of a Japanese man who was baffled at how Britain had decided to run its universities like firms. “Why? Your universities are excellent and your firms are terrible.”

Have to say, these little beauties really have revolutionised my capacity to appreciate BBC Radio 3 breakfast during my morning gym sessions Not often that new tech is genuinely life enhancing but the noise cancelling on these makes a huge difference. 💪👂

Bernie Sanders 🇺🇸 Please. No more speeches in the Senate about “freedom” until one Republican has the guts to stand up to Trump’s lies about Ukraine & Putin. Ukraine did not start this horrific war. Russia did. Zelensky isn't a dictator. Putin is. The US must not enter into an alliance with Putin.

This is truly shameful. Even China and Iran abstained. The US has put itself in the company of some of the worst states in the world - Russia, Belarus, North Korea. Hungary showing its true colours as Russia's Trojan horse in the EU as well.

The blue and yellow of Ukraine. The colours of resistance against imperialism. On the eve of this grim anniversary, they adorn our building as a symbol of our unflinching support for the Ukrainian people. Our neighbours, partners, and future EU members.

So! In #running news, after 8 months since my big knee injury and of training constantly interrupted by some accident, illness or injury, I finally had a week when everything went well - even the weather! Solid pace for fast work, and heart rate coming down nicely on easy runs.

🚨🚨 The Rebellion Strikes Back: European leaders are working on a military aid package for Ukraine — worth at least €20 billion — to bolster Kyiv, as the United States increasingly aligns with Moscow. 🧵 www.politico.eu/article/eu-w...

This is why the right don’t like experts like @shashj.bsky.social They come with facts to point out the lies of the rich and powerful.

IDK but feels like a slight, tiny infraction of free speech? So I'm confident JD Vance will be along in a minute to make a speech denouncing it.

Dame Myra Hess looks like she’d be wonderful company on a boozy night out and might easily follow up some Bach with “My old man’s a dustman” 😆 @petroc.bsky.social

I welcome the agreement on our 16th package of sanctions. The EU is clamping down even harder on circumvention by targeting more vessels in Putin’s shadow fleet and imposing new import and export bans. We are committed to keep up the pressure on the Kremlin.

I mean we all appreciate the art of economy in composition but that Ruth Gipps on #Radio3 just made a very very little go a very very long way. A bit too long. Doobee doobee doooo was quite thinly spread @petroc.bsky.social

Just arrived in Paris for crucial talks. Europe’s security is at a turning point. Yes, it is about Ukraine—but it is also about us. We need an urgency mindset. We need a surge in defense. And we need both of them now.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

Peace in Ukraine and Europe’s security are inseparable. Peace cannot be a simple ceasefire. Russia must no longer be a threat to #Ukraine, to Europe, to international security. There will be no credible and successful negotiations, no lasting peace, without Ukraine and without the EU.

✋ On this #RedHandDay, we say it loud and clear: they are #ChildrenNotSoldiers. It’s time to end their recruitment and exploitation in armed conflicts and to ensure real support for those affected. Change is possible, let’s act now. #CAAC #ActToProtect #EndChildRecruitment

#A-Haydn-A-Day Day 82: Symphony No. 18 I've caught up at last! Probably #3 in order of composition, signs of its earliness are everywhere: it's in only three movements, it ends in a galant minuet, and its first movement is in a form that was about to die out.

Europe is also open for cooperation. We're expanding our model of open collaboration to be able to host the frontier innovation in AI. We will launch AI GIGA factories, modeled on CERN Very large data and computing infrastructures to train very large models – open to all ↓ europa.eu/!ppF9RQ

These memorials are absolutely extraordinary. It’s all very well to be dignified and restrained in portrayals of the suffering of war, but these visceral and passionate responses seem to speak more powerfully, especially for the innocent victims of conflict.

I spend *every* month only being an historic gay. 😐 Oh. The professor means something different though. Check his thread 😆

Over 200 million women, including at least 600,000 in Europe, underwent female genital mutilation. On International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, let’s be clear: FGM must be universally condemned and eradicated. Together with countries around the globe, we can make it happen ↓ europa.eu/!cqkMDd

We are pleased to extend a warm welcome to the Secretary General of the EEAS, Belén Martínez Carbonell ( @eeas-secgen.bsky.social ) who, together with HR/VP @kajakallas.bsky.social and her team, will advocate for the construction of a stronger Europe. We wish you success in this important endeavor.

Well, in #running news, there are exactly 10 weeks to go before the Zurich half marathon!! The past week has been for recovery from last week’s half marathon in Seville (slightly disappointing 1:37:37, but a good base on which to build.
