@bsbibotany.bsky.social beautiful spread of wild garlic and bluebells in Bradfield woods in Suffolk #wildflowerhour

she was a crook in florida. numerous pay for play scandals, including Trump himself.

They are taking away our vaccines. Jay Bhattacharya is talking about eliminating mRNA vaccines. Meanwhile, RFK Jr. has managed to ratfuck the Novavax approval process.

Shortly after meeting Zelensky, Trump has some of his harshest words yet for Putin: “There was no reason…to be shooting missiles into civilian areas. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along and has to be dealt with differently.”

“‘The endowment may be smaller four years from now than it is today, but Harvard will survive Trump,’ predicted Daniel Hemel, an NYU tax law professor. ‘If it could survive the Revolutionary War, it’s going to make it through Trump.’”

This isn't competitive authoritarianism. This is full blown authoritarianism.

NEW: TIME publishes interview with Trump. This is a REAL section of the transcript. It is impossible to read this and not conclude that Trump is suffering profound, cognitive decay.

New in PN: Lisa Murkowski reveals the ugly nature of Trump's rule "Trump is not a normal president who governs through persuasion and political savvy. He constantly resorts to coercive threats. A system where that becomes normal isn’t a democracy. It’s a reign of terror."

Hi I'm here from the 1970s to tell you about the coming Trump stagflation. Latest in @theatlantic.com www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

This is really important. Do NOT use the AI summaries at the top of google searches. Ignore them. This is especially important if you don't have any prior knowledge about the topic, but also a good general rule. Search sources, scrutinize them carefully and double-check with other sources.

'Bollocks' being considered a swearword you need to star out and not, frankly, a much of a muchness with 'poppycock' or frankly even just 'nonsense' is one of those real "oh dear" moments that cause you to revisit a bunch of exchanges.

I'm sorry I know there's a lot going on but how are we not screaming about Ron DeSantis stealing $10 million from Medicaid and the money ending up with pro-DeSantis superPACs, funneled through a charity run by his wife? HOW IS THIS NOT NATIONAL NEWS? www.miamiherald.com/news/politic...

Trump has signed more than 120 executive orders since taking office. These orders aren’t law, but you wouldn't know that from the headlines. 'It’s the media’s responsibility not to leave the public with a false impression,' @sulliview.bsky.social writes margaretsullivan.substack.com/p/trump-pret...

There are times when a decent person would quit rather than preside over a sick farce. This is one of those times.

This should be the top story in Axios’s morning read. But it isn’t. It’s the FIFTH top story. @axios.com www.axios.com/2025/04/23/t...

Think this is quite revealing in a way. If this were like, a "normal" Republican administration discussing ID cards as a serious policy proposal as part of a way to do fair and efficient immigration enforcement would make sense! But the Trump administration is not that

So glad the free speech absolutists are in charge.

NEW: A SECOND story was released today of a Venezuelan man disappeared by the Trump admin. Neiyerver Leon is a barber who entered legally seeking asylum in June 2023. ICE arrested him on March 13 and accused him of being in TdA. Days later, he vanished off the face of the earth.

I cannot agree enough. Deeply depressing.

One reason conservatives beat centrists is that they look at polling and think "we have work to do" instead of "this is an immutable fact of reality that we are powerless to tackle." On any number of issues they have moved the needle through sheer bloody-mindedness and media saturation.

The United States is led by a President who has lost any final grip on sanity

On Fox, Shannon Bream presses @vanhollen.senate.gov about Abrego Garcia: "Do you worry, though, that you are sticking your neck out for somebody who maybe, down the line, is proven to be connected to MS-13?" Van Hollen replies: "I'm not vouching for the man. I'm vouching for the man's rights."

Just spoke with my CDC sources. They were in tears. Budgets cut. RFJK has ordered them not to publicize bird flu symptoms in exposed workers. Not to test them. Not to speak. They know people are getting sick. And they’re being forced to stay silent. This is not just a cover-up. It's cruelty.

Teacher absolutely pissing themselves laughing whilst marking my work.

My objection to this is twofold: 1) It is stupid to do seat-by-seat models about an election that will occur after the end of Trump's second term. 2) If pollsters going to spend money on things, why not, e.g. try & get a better sample of young men of all kinds or ethnic minorities of all ages?

Public opinion on issues like this is not unmovable - but this certainly goes agains the grain of even Reform voters, who are strongly opposed to allowing imports of chlorinated chicken to secure a trade deal

A draft of an executive order to gut the State Department includes eliminating Africa operations, ending the foreign service exam and closing offices that focus on climate change, democracy and human rights. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/20/us/politics/trump-state-department-overhaul.html?unlocke

If Jesus had focused more on kitchen table issues and less on unpopular outcasts like lepers and prostitutes, he might have won more support from white working-class Judeans.

I'm just a poor country political historian and not some big city media fella, but it *does* seem like a slightly big deal that the leader of the United States presented comically faked "evidence" in the Oval Office to justify his power to disappear ordinary people into a Central American prison?

There’s a lot of this going around

NEW: In agency after agency, the U.S. government is losing its capacity to measure how American society is functioning, making it much harder to gauge the nature and scale of the problems we are facing and the effectiveness of policies. By @alecmac.bsky.social

This would of course be another step deeper into authoritarianism. And of course, it would be illegal and challenged. But it could do great damage to fund-raising and operations for these institutions even if ultimately reversed.

This is rogue state level stuff. American citizens can’t trust their own government.
