It’s difficult to overemphasize what a dumb and shortsighted idea it is to start importing fracked gas, literally just to try and keep on trumps good side

A landlord government An epidemic of empty homes Extortionate rents Scarcity of availability Join the dots A manufactured housing crisis #DerelictIreland #VacantIreland

You can’t appease fascists, Mícheál. They don’t keep their word. They don’t care about your concerns. So if you go to the WH for Paddy’s Day, it’s because you want to. You’re ok with what you’re cosying up to. Not in my name, thanks. ☘️

Hang on the minister for forestry brought land for forestry last year...

Mr Fox is now Minister for Henhouses

Micheal Healy T'Raevelyan, the flat cap Tan, has made millions from govt contracts, while already being paid by public coffers, he's voted with every appalling housing decision and has benefited again from that. Absolutely grotesque that people see him as a man of the people. #speirgorm #Ireland

THAT is how you frame this story.

We really did replace one landlord class with another didn't we?

Maybe if we booted landlords out of government, something could actually change for the better here? Thousands of empty houses/flats just sitting there while we have people dying on the streets, people struggling with high rents because of greedy landlords.. www.irishexaminer.com/news/politic...

Watching the government crow over deportation flights the same month that three of Irelands most prominent far-right groups are disintegrating due to infighting is quite the contrast

I find the -overruled- planning report’s claim that the developer’s plan to provide zero (as opposed to the required 5%) of space for community was reasonable because there was no shortage of such space in the area laughable. It is a critical lack in the neighbourhood. www.rte.ie/news/busines...

See? even outsiders can see the stunt that's being pulled #IrishPolitics #Lowry

Ireland’s political opposition is threatening to disrupt parliament indefinitely in a showdown over whether a group of pro-government independent lawmakers can sit on both sides of the house at the same time.

What’d she do? Return a Tesla?

There's a false narrative here. Developer has failed to meet Dublin Development Plan; 5% is not just for 'arts' but for community space. Developers building mass apartments at significant profit without providing community amenities is not progress. #housing www.rte.ie/news/busines...

The People's Union USA, a grassroots group, is calling on Americans to join a national boycott by not shopping for 24 hours on Friday.

Something that doesn't get talked about enough is how underwhelming these private "space" flights are in terms of what they're actually achieving. They're visiting "space" in the same way I "visited" a country whose airport I've had a layover in.

This decision reveals Israeli decision-makers’ disregard for fundamental human rights such as freedom of movement and freedom of opinion and expression. It embodies their blackout policy & is intended to prevent any independent oversight or disclosure of the facts. euromedmonitor.org/en/article/6...

The Irish government must not support a commercial liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal or allow fracked gas imports from the United States, a group of energy experts have warned. www.businesspost.ie/article/ener...

DOGE recommends cuts to the FAA. Hundreds of workers get fired, including those tasked with producing air traffic navigation maps. Now Starlink is reportedly in line to take over a $2 billion contract to upgrade the nation's air traffic control systems. See how this works?

CANDA MUST JOIN THE EU

Embarrassing.

I hate to criticise anything with Michelle Yeoh in it, but I just finished Section 31 and it's garbage. The worst thing to happen to Star Trek since Neelix.

Wanting government TDs to take up opposition speaking time is dilution of democracy. They are supporting the government and should be treated as such. A stroke has been pulled here, and the media should hang their heads for trying to play it down with soundbites. #speirgorm

In case anyone's interested, the government of Ireland, which is propped up by dodgy deals with independent TDs some of whom have criminal convictions, just changed the law so those independents can act as though they're in Opposition, and when challenged, they just brought up the Troubles as usual.

Oohh lovely! The Irish version of a parliamentary power grab ☘️ #speirgorm #spéirghorm #GE24 #IrishPolitics

When it comes to the regional independents they struck deals with, and the electorate, #FFG promised more than they could deliver. The difference? #FFG are doing everything in their power to keep their partners happy. Have they ever gone to such extremes to help the electorate? #spéirgorm

Absolutely outrageous and must be opposed by everyone who values democracy. Trying to steal opposition speaking time. You can't be in government and opposition at the same time. A brazen attempt to force through unpopular & immoral policies. #irishpol

Am I the only one that doesn't see this as a "row", but a fundamental change in the democratic balance of how the Dáil functions? Media saying they should stop their silly row & get back to normal, when the new normal means gov can fill time with back-claps! #IrishPol www.rte.ie/news/analysi...

A cool thing about the Dail speaking rights row is that it’s happening over Michael Lowry, a man that 66% of people think shouldn’t be anywhere near government. Only 41% of FF supporters are on FF’s side of the debate. It will be HILARIOUS if all this leads to another election.

It appears that, in the latest twist, the Government has decided to create Leaders Praising Time, where Government backbenchers can pose questions to the Government Ministers such as "Why are you so handsome?" and " How can we support your great work?" https://www.rte.ie/news/politics/2025/0227/149

Indefensible by decent people.

€360k could have been used to bring 18 empty and derelict council homes back into use #VacantIreland #DerelictIreland
