To all of my trans students, friends and colleagues, at the end of what has clearly been a very difficult day. I hope you know that *everyone* is welcome here, and always will be.

And now reached 94,000 signatures - thank you. We need another 6,000 to trigger a debate where Defra should be put on the spot by @libdems.org.uk @greenparty.org.uk

Jinx! 🐾😍 🌊 The biosecurity of Welsh islands, where we welcome thousands of nesting seabirds annually, is vital. 💚 By keeping these habitats safe from invasive species, we secure a future for our seabirds. youtu.be/50UtdXC8EQM

Happy oak-leaf measuring season, for those who celebrate! Year 9 of my GCSE project is off to a cracking start, with these lovely fresh little leaves from Coed Ty Llwyd, Cardiff.

🚨 The Canadian Association of University Teachers has just advised against any non-essential travel to the United States.🚨 Was doing this anyway, but still shocking to see it officially in writing. www.caut.ca/latest/2025/...

'Beware employers bearing yoga mats and wellbeing sessions....It’s patronising, and ideologically suspect. It’s not your job to be resilient, it’s your employer’s job to provide you with decent working conditions.' 1/3

Quite impressed so far with the B&Q bird song translator.

If you hate statistics like I do, then you'll love my free lectures. Putting science before statistics, 20 lectures from basics of inference & causal modeling to multilevel models & dynamic state space models. It's all free, made with love and sympathy. 🧪 #stats www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

This should be the template for every university’s website: let the public know what they gain from research and what they stand to lose. www.harvard.edu

Such a major decision forced through without a vote? And then a cover-up attempt? This raises serious questions over the University's management, and will further damage the University’s reputation and staff's trust in management.

I just attended a conference in the US. We had one speaker detained and two others turned away at the border.

🌱 We're hiring a PDRA to work with us, they'll lead research on reimagining nature finance to support people and nature, and transitioning to nature-positive economies. Deadline: April 30th @oxfordgeography.bsky.social @ox.ac.uk

Okay, so my awesome sister @sharonie621.bsky.social just showed me how to customize Google to search without AI. IT IS SO MUCH BETTER NOW. Maybe I'm the last person to do this. But just in case I'm not, it's easy to set up. I'll share the steps here. (1/8)

A peculiar male petrel (and Storm-petrel) habit is the courtship growl- I’ve often heard it from burrows but didn’t realise it involved inflation of the throat. Some species can have a very low register for their body size. Here a White-necked Petrel gives it his all. #SuperSeabirdSunday🪶

Why is the government and the news so indifferent to the meltdown happening in UK #HigherEd right now? Our universities are the envy of the world. Yet we are at risk of losing a generation of academics and damaging the sector beyond repair.

Please come and take my job! I’ve been the social media support officer for the @bou.org.uk for almost 4 years and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it! I made so many new friends, met new colleagues, attended many amazing conferences and learnt a lot. This is an ideal role for #ECR folks in #ornithology 🪶

My university has sent us a long list of guidelines and cautions regarding travel to the US. You know, our formerly closest ally but now a risky place to travel.

The government’s new Planning and Infrastructure Bill could give businesses the green light to trash habitats and threaten wildlife. Say no to attacks on nature! If you agree – join me and add your name with @friends-earth.bsky.social👇 foe.uk/tffac

The Welsh model offers a mechanism where truth isn’t just an ideal, but a legal standard…protecting democracies from the infection of political deceit & giving citizens something many have lost; confidence that words still matter, & that truth can still win #Auspol nation.cymru/opinion/has-...

There's something indescribably exciting about encountering black and white male Pied Flycatchers on their spring migration. This bird was found on Sunday flycatching in the Quarry from the lichen-clad boulders normally home to thousands of Storm Petrels.

It's been a cracking spring so far on Dream Island. The 48th record of Hoopoe was found at East Bog on 23rd March and Firecrests, Black Redstarts and Ring Ouzels are to be regularly found pinging around the sheltered cliffs.

Every year, fewer #WhiteStorks cross the Straits of Gibraltar on their annual migratory journey. In this paper, we unveil the mechanisms driving the recent and rapid loss of their migratory behaviour. 👉https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/1365-2656.70035
