Our newest paper led by Julián Tijerín-Triviño finds that #climatechange is slowing the productivity of European #forests: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/geb.70011 A 🧵: We used 3 surveys over 15-30 years from >13,900 NFI plots in Mediterranean, temperate and boreal regions (1/5)

Gentle reminder: The next seminar of the International Tree Mortality Network @treemortality.bsky.social featuring the great @dudney-joan.bsky.social is on for tomorrow! Tune in if you're interested in tree mortality in general, and disturbance interactions in particular!

Trees are well-known #climate shelters in cities, but also in #nature 💚🌿 A recent study lead by M.A Perez-Navarro shows that canopies create small oases that better conserve humidity, maintain a more stable temperature and accumulate more water and nutrient reserves ✨

Ready to learn how to use LiDAR for research in #forestry and natural resources using #R? This week I am releasing a 7-part series to help you get started! Share with anyone you know who wants to get started. Part 1 covers acquiring, & viewing LiDAR data! bit.ly/lidR-module1

Important piece on the role of Ockham's razor in the modern world of scientific modeling in @pnas.org. Conclusion: Complex models can be quite useful, and parsimony and complexity can complement each other in helping us to gain new insights! doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

Paper alert! 🚨 Co-authored by our team member Matthias Huss, this Nature Communications study predicts a ‘greener’ future for glacier-fed streams, but at a cost. As glaciers shrink, microbial communities will shift, reshaping ecosystem functioning. Read more: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

When the same data tells a different story… 📊🔍 You’d think analyzing the same dataset would lead to the same conclusions, but our new BMC Biology study shows otherwise. Different methods - different answers! Why? It's complicated... My experience in the study → 🔗 the3dlab.org/2025/02/06/w...

2024 was the warmest year for all continents, except Antarctica and Australasia. In Europe, 2024 exceeded the 1991–2020 average by 1.47°C and the previous record from 2020 by 0.28°C. Read the full Global Climate Highlights 2024 here: https://bit.ly/40kQpcz #C3S #GCH2024

🚨 New publication 📣 In this paper, with C. Bouget, we crossed 2 European databases and found that among other environmental predictor (e.g., tree age 🧓, altitude 🏔️...), forest dieback is a significant deadwood producer. Declining patches can be use for deadwood restoration. 🧪🌍🍁🌐 tinyurl.com/3c4v4wu9

iLand is the first forest landscape model to explicitly simulate forest microclimate. Why? Because microclimate effects propagate across scales and influence important processes such as decomposition, regeneration and bark beetle development. Read more in Braziunas et al. doi.org/10.1007/s109...

Integrating forest inventories with remote sensing and modelling is needed to better understand tree mortality. A global effort should promote equitable collaborations, empowering scientists from less wealthy regions. @treemortality.bsky.social nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Happy to share this new simulation paper from the PhD of Igor Boyer. In this work we aim to understand how different life history strategies observed in the the yellow-bellied toad 🐸 could impact its expected species redistribution in the Alps over 21st century.

Interesting! nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
