Yay! Just got a boatload of tickets for Salzburg in August. Am off to meet with the bankruptcy lawyers. 🤣

Quiet Sunday afternoon at home. He does get in the way of things. 😹😻

Tonight the concert @nyphilharmonic.bsky.social whose rehearsal I attended yesterday. Particularly excited for the Prokofiev concert, though the opening Suite by Shostakovich was a pleasant surprise yesterday.

Last night’s performance by the Juilliard Orchestra was an unexpected pleasure by very talented young musicians. L’enfant et les sortilèges is funny, witty, charming and ultimately moving. Cast and orchestra led by Louis Langrée delivered a thoroughly enjoyable performance.

Periodically I feel compelled to send up a shout for this opera. To be fair it makes a complete hash of the Figaro/Susanna story, and perhaps it drags a bit here and there, but it’s filled with glorious music. I keep stopping to conduct it and dance to it. Please program it!

Tonight a concert @nyphilharmonic.bsky.social with this amazing program. The orchestra’s 17,145th concert.

Continuing my amble around the German-speaking lands, which began with the Friedrich exhibit this morning, with this program. Orchestra of St Luke’s @ Carnegie Hall

When I was in Berlin a few weeks ago, I stopped by the Alte Nationalgalerie to see an exhibit of Impressionist cityscapes. Very enjoyable and I was lucky to catch it shortly before it closed.

After a few days off for travel and recovery therefrom, I return to my home hall @nyphilharmonic.bsky.social with a program that seems to reflect my recent trip. Lots of Leipzig! Have never heard Beatrice Rana live before, really looking forward to it! Back of the hall seat 😻

It’s good to travel. It’s good to come home, too. 😻

Tonight to Staatsoper Berlin for the final performance of the trip. It goes out with a bang! Iréne Theorin! Evelyn Herlitzius!! Even Cheryl Studer! In one of my favorite operas. I got 2 Strauss bangers in the space of 4 days. 🥰 Tx3 to all!

If you see this post, quote with a bridge from your gallery. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge, Budapest.

Final performance at Deutsche Oper on this trip. I’ve really enjoyed renewing my acquaintance with this house. The cast here is largely new to me, but I’ve had the good fortune to catch a lot of Sir Donald Runnicles on this trip.

Prior to 2024, I had seen exactly 2 live performances of Frau, when the Met did it in 2013. Today’s will be my 6th since then. The opera gods are weird, but bountiful. More Clay Hilley! Tx3 to all @ Deutsche Oper.

Last night’s Lucrezia Borgia was a lot of fun. Angela Meade brought her trademark power, blasting tops and a strong low range, Schrott and Breslik very strong male leads, with Schrott being wonderfully evil and so great to hear this score in the hands of one of the best bands.

A quick detour to Munich for the Bayerische Staatsoper production of Lucrezia Borgia, an opera I’ve only seen live once before, by a small company in New York. This is still my favorite German house. 🥰

Gorgeous Rosenkavalier at Staatsoper Berlin last night. A real pleasure to hear Diana Damrau again after so many years, Emily D’Angelo was an excellent Octavian and I also loved Regula Mühlemann’s Sophie.
