Reminder: this is the same plan Russian operatives offered to Paul Manafort in exchange for their help getting Trump elected in 2016. (See Manafort’s testimony in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report.)

Trump ... a short history of failure ... I will end Russia war on Ukraine. FAIL. So he moves on to ... Get egg prices down. FAIL. Moves on. Ending Israel Hamas conflict. FAIL. Moves on. Re order world trade. FAIL. Moves on. Bombard Iran. FAIL? mailchi.mp/2ecb14d8da99... #Trump #Failure

Amazing. After nearly losing her house, and being locked away in a legal battle for years because of one innocuous line in her last TED Talk, @carolecadwalla.bsky.social returns to the Lion’s Den, and calls out the Broligarchs This Is What a Digital Coup Looks Like youtu.be/TZOoT8AbkNE?...

One man is standing up for the rule of law in Britain. His reward is to be savagely attacked by right wing think tanks, newspapers & politicians. They understand where the battle against populism is taking place. And they've marshalled their forces accordingly. iandunt.substack.com/p/a-good-man...

The American Public Health Association has called for RFK Jr. to resign or be fired, citing his "complete disregard" for science.

Thank you Sen. @chrismurphyct.bsky.social We need voiced like yours from the Democratic Party to keep calling out this administration

This is a terrible vote from all of them, but I want to emphasize again that Ed Case, who represents a district that can be won by any breathing Democrat, should be ruthlessly primaried.

Trump's brain is mush. Global markets, the EU and China will only take the US seriously again after the House and Senate take back control

NEW REPORT: The Business and Trade Committee's report 'Twenty ways to fix Brexit’s growth hit' has been released today. ✅ Its recommendations include key policies published by the UKTBC, such as advancing regulatory alignment between the UK and EU. www.tradeandbusiness.uk/news/twenty-...

A UK-EU mutual recognition agreement on conformity assessment could remove the need for British manufacturers to repeat costly testing processes to sell their products while increasing regulatory stability, increasing confidence for investment. A much-needed move we've backed since 2023.

Starmer says we need to go 'further and faster' in lowering barriers with other like-minded trade partners. ✅ Absolutely. And we must prioritise our trading relationship with the EU, which could deliver up to 1.5% growth - even with Trump's tariffs.

These are the kind of memes currently circulating on Chinese social media. Trump bringing manufacturing back to America…

Very significant intervention! Leading industry groups now back the @uktradebusiness.bsky.social policy recommendation for EU and UK to agree mutual recognition of each others' product safety standards. It would save many millions £, reduce border friction and grow our economies. I hope HMG listens.

The tariffs are hardly a one-man operation: Remember that Congress — not the president — has ultimate power over this issue, including the ability to revoke the tariffs if it wants to. Trump's plan is proceeding because a critical mass of his party supports (or accepts) it.

Republicans in Congress can join Democrats right now to turn off the bogus emergency Trump has declared to impose worldwide tariffs. Or they can continue to bend the knee to Trump.

Striking parallel between Trump and Liz Truss in terms of the power of economics/markets to turn even one’s own partisans against you. Trump isn’t losing any support over his performative cruelty towards immigrants, but is rapidly losing Republicans over economic policy, stock market, inflation etc

As a US citizen, I would like to thank the people of Lithuania for sending our four fallen soldiers home with grace.

How Trump has reset the Brexit reset. New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog. The moral collapse of the US & the US's declaration of economic war both change the meaning of the Brexit reset, but they don't necessarily change it in the same way: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/04/how-...

Today’s Unrequested Advice…

I hope Wall Street has figured out two things: 1. Trump is a disaster for the U.S. economy. 2. There is no price at which many of us would ever buy a Tesla. I wouldn't take it for free with a $5,000 rebate. I think they have an inkling of the first but are still in denial about the second.

Good day to remember that a US President has no inherent power over tariffs whatsoever. It’s not like war powers or pardons. It’s entirely delegated by Congress to deal with emergencies. GOP Congress cld modify that law tonight and bring this to a screeching halt.

Senators Chuck Grassley (R) and Maria Cantwell (D) just introduced a bill to reassert Congress’s power over tariffs. —President must notify Congress on new tariffs within 48 hours of imposition. —Congress must approve them within 60 days or they expire. www.cantwell.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

The morning to re-read our @uktradebusiness.bsky.social report. The US has made it harder to trade, but by pulling down barriers to UK/EU trade, we can gain significantly more than we have just lost. To achieve that, we need deep alignment on goods & services. www.bestforbritain.org/growth_report

🧵 I've been reviewing many of the past year's US & European military & intelligence assessments of how long it would take Russia to rebuild its military capability and the timeline on which any threat to NATO could unfold. A brief thread below which summarises these assessments.

The UK exports £360bn of goods to the EU, on which we now struggle with big non tariff barriers, compared to £60bn to the US. Imagine looking at this sh1tshow and thinking it vindicates Brexit in any way.

💀 Russia loses 1,390 soldiers and 49 artillery systems over past day

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

Well, the Signal fiasco gets worse. While this may have been the only time the Trump administration added a journalist, it’s clear they’re using unclassified chats for all sorts of other sensitive information.
