Trump is surprised when a reporter tells him that the EU today announced tariff increases on the US

The President has chosen to intentionally crash the U.S. economy and financial system by doing things which have been ridiculed in every intro macroeconomics class for the past 80+ years. Those with the power to stop him refuse to do so because they hate minorities.

Cantwell: "You're telling us in your testimony you want a tariff on semiconductors. I'm saying that the last administration and this organization here passed the CHIPS and Science Act so we could reshore semiconductors. You're not going to win the innovation economy by tariffing semiconductors."

WARNER: Can you explain how it helps natl security or our trade balance - I loved your fancy Greek formula which was bad math on steroids - how with a trade surplus Australia got hit with a 10% tariff as well? GREER: Australia has the lowest rate available WARNER: We have a trade surplus!

The Supreme Court started the last Civil War in the USA, they're about to start the next! They are corrupt! They are a fraud! TIME TO TAKE ACTION! Get involved at www.Indivisible.org

"What the U.S. is doing now is not reform. It is rejecting the very system it created." - Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong (April 8, 2025)

Sunrise on the reaping spoilers ahead But omg haymitch being besties with katniss’ dad is RUINING me it gives a whole new layer to everyfuckingthing AND I just now put it together (like 5 minutes ago) that the song katniss sings to rue (prim in the movie) IS THE SONG LUCY WROTE IN THE MEADOW! 😭

Remember SignalGate? (One of Trump's superpowers is being involved in so many scandals all the time that very few of them end up having staying power beyond a news cycle or two.)

AP: Preliminary figures released Tuesday show visits to the U.S. from overseas fell 11.6% last month compared w/ the prev year. Tourism was projected to rise by 9%, but is now anticipated to fall by roughly that same amount. Bookings for US travel at a top Canadian site are down 40%.

At this point, you can’t convince me they aren’t manipulating the market. As soon as the indexes started peaking today, the White House started talking about tariffs on China, and everything is in the red again.

"Like other authoritarians, Trump seeks to manipulate and define reality—of the present and of the past." Read @davidcorn.bsky.social's latest on Trump.

sure this sounds bad but remember this nation was founded on the principle of cheerfully tolerating large surtaxes on imported goods

Q: 60 Minutes found 75% of the migrants who were sent to El Salvador do not have criminal records. That true? BONDI: They're not Venezuelan migrants. They're illegal aliens from Venezuela who should not have been in our country Q: So you're confirming they didn't commit a crime? BONDI: *leaves*

Rand Paul: "The whole [tariffs] debate is so fundamentally backwards & upside down. It's based on a fallacy & the fallacy is this: that somehow in a trade, someone must lose. That somehow when you trade with someone, someone is taking advantage of you... I have a trade deficit with my grocery store"

You’d think when you’re claiming the richest country in the world can’t afford childhood cancer research you might wait a year before throwing yourself a 100 million dollar birthday parade. But carpe diem, suckers.

Mary Shelley: In my book I invented Frankenstein’s Monster as a cautionary tale Tech Company: At long last, we have created Frankenstein’s Monster from classic sci-fi novel Frankenstein

⚡️ 🎉 JUST NOW: “The lobbyists lost this one.” @rustygrills @SenJohnStevens’ bill to protect giant corporations from sick farmers DIED in House Judiciary (pushed to next year) 🫡 to FARMERS, many Republican, who showed up to testify against it. Y’all killed that bad bill.

Time to start protesting SCOTUS too. “We the people” have totally lost our Constitutional rights.

Further reading. Highly suggested.

part of the political issue is that popular understanding of mid century america is filtered through nostalgia-drenched popular culture, often through stories told from the perspective of a child or, if not a child, an affluent adult

Has the government considered that a significant portion of the country never expects anything to get better and have been clinically depressed and suicidal for decades?? It seems unwise to continue pushing people who increasingly feel they have nothing left to lose.

Bondi: "All those planes that are gone, and there, those people are staying ... domestic terrorists, foreign terrorists -- you better look out, because we're coming after you. I'd start self-deporting if I were you because we're gonna find you."

Lawyers have ethical obligations to courts regardless of what their bosses say. If a government lawyer is asked to violate their oath, they should resign. There is no excuse for caving to Trump.

I got kicked off threads and instagram yall lmao

This is the best take I've seen on the immediate political impact of Hands Off. A lot of people in power thought "roll over and play dead" was a smart safe strategy. They can either catch up or be left behind.

Y’all know what to do

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines. When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

I support the US garment industry. I don't believe in making life harder for immigrants or erecting blanket tariffs. So how can we reshore some of our US garment manufacturing without xenophobia or protectionism? Here's my view. 🧵

roberts et al have divined the Actual Intent of the constitution, which is to allow the government to exercise nearly unaccountable power to strip people of their rights. it is why we fought the revolution!

“are you wearing the—?” “the habeas boots? the boots in which I carry all my habeas petitions just in case I get disappeared to the gulag in el salvador? yeah, yeah I am.”

We fight to give hope — a reminder that there are still those within the government standing up for what’s right. Since Saturday, we’ve faced relentless attacks. We know there will be consequences for our actions, but we will not back down.

NEW: The Supreme Court took 6 months to decide immunity, but just 6 days to effectively strip the rest of us of due process. My latest: www.muellershewrote.com/p/the-corrup...

In most societies, the rich and powerful acceded to the rule of law solely because they realized that, as soon as ordinary people feel they’re getting screwed without any chance of peaceful redress, that’s when you get the pitchfork-wielding mobs.

They’re going to keep pushing until something stops them.

Christian "TheoBros" are building a tech utopia in Appalachia. What could go wrong?

let go of knowingness to get some analytical clarity! some things are new!

Carney: "The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over."

This guy is in one of the worst prisons in the world with no way out and may spend the rest of his life there because, it appears, he has an autism awareness tattoo in honor of his little brother. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

What fresh new horrors shall dear leader foist upon us this week

“Elias Law Group will not be deterred from fighting for democracy in court. There will be no negotiation with this White House about the clients we represent or the lawsuits we bring on their behalf."
