By accepting Trump’s anti-Black premise and regurgitating the narrative that equates anything Black as DEI, the NY Times has become part of the propaganda machine

Look this sucks but news outlets need to start realizing there's limited journalistic value in sitting in a room and letting a person behind a podium lie to you. You're not holding anyone to account when you do that.

well it has certainly been an amusing prank to let the worst people alive take over the american government for a few weeks, but I think it's probably gone on long enough

they just lied they lied, and they lied, and they lied, and they won because of it and now they're claiming they had a mandate to do all of the things they lied about not doing and many more besides the press bears an enormous amount of responsibility for all of this

This is a very basic thing so many poll-sniffing Dems seem unable to grasp. Voters don’t have strong or settled views on most issues, even if they’ll give a pollster some answer when asked. If you make a good case or just clearly signal “this is what our faction thinks now” many of them shift.

Please remember something: if you had said a year ago that Trump would do even a fraction of these things, you would have been mocked, belittled, accused of “Trump derangement syndrome,” and dismissed by certain people. Identify those people and block and shun them.

the OTHER thing about the white house’s anti-diversity push is that like old fashioned segregation it is explicitly an effort to undermine unions! like c’mon! don’t be stupid!

Unfortunately the Constitution did not foresee a situation where the president does whatever he wants and says "What are you gonna do about it dork"

“The Democrats’ approach raises serious questions about their pathological inability to participate in the modern news cycle.”

Ah ok, well, glad we know now, I guess.

The Republicans and Democrats in Congress who voted for the Laken Riley Act, and endorsed its notions of detention and deportation without the rudiments of due process, facilitated today’s announcement of Trump concentration camps. They’d be wise not to go a single step further down that road.

dear god I can’t believe people voted to do this again

what rightly frustrates people, myself included, are these descriptive posts. we already know what’s going on. what are you going to *do* about it. call for hearings. call for impeachment. withhold your vote. promise complete obstruction. anything!

Saw a "Democratic strategist" say "we have to earn people's trust back." Just mind-boggling that so many don't understand how this works. Did voters in 2024 say "I trust the Republican Party"? No. They were mad at those in power. Democrats have to get them mad at Republicans. It's not complicated.

Remember the "fact checkers" who upraided the Harris campaign for (correctly) stating that Project 2025 was an adjunct to Trump?

How is “this directly conflicts with federal legal requirements for removing IGs” not a part of your subhed? www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

I kept this screenshot assuming someday we might be asked to forget.

I’m just going to say that AOC is the acting leader of the Democratic Party until someone proves otherwise. At least insofar as she is responding to the moment with leadership.

The key to understanding this is that no sensible outfit would try to court a conservative audience with journalism; Republicans hate journalism. The purpose isn't to expand the audience, it's to remind staff they are expected to slant coverage and soak liberal readers with conservative propaganda.

Wait, they are using Signal to do government business? Oh boy, no record of what it is being deliberated, how it is deliberate, etc.

In 1977, Vincent Price starred in a one-man-show where he played openly gay Oscar Wilde; it was condemned by Anita Bryant. When asked about her condemnation, Price replied that Wilde had already written a play about Anita: “A Woman of No Importance”

people will go on the internet and say anything “you should be respectful when people die no matter how horrible they are” no you shouldn’t. that isn’t true.

To an asshole, all virtue is "virtue signaling."

Jimmy Carter's funeral is today. I thought I'd look at an important part of his legacy. His anti-racism galvanized white evangelicals and revealed their ugly views decades before MAGA. www.salon.com/2025/01/09/h...

Last time I checked, Trump had nominated 10 people from the Fox News for big and important government jobs that they are largely, and sometimes grotesquely, unqualified for. But they are still going to act like they are the defenders of merit?

17 years after the Great Recession, we're poised to inflate a massive bubble of speculation based on absolutely nothing www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Trump's presser should embarrass commentators who have sugar-coated his nationalism, calling it "populist" and "isolationist" and casting it as being about safeguarding "sovereignty." His nationalism is malignant and expansionist. Our pod exchange on this: newrepublic.com/article/1899...

I wrote a little bit about how the U.S. press continues to fail utterly to describe the fight over net neutrality (really a fight over whether federal consumer protection should exist AT ALL) with any sort of urgency or accuracy:

It's demonstrably true that conservatives are the major moderation problem for any platform but every platform has to adhere to the completely made up postulate that people across the political spectrum violate the rules with the exact same frequency

Donations to Biden's inaugural fund in 2021: Meta = $0 Tim Cook = $0 Sam Altman = $0 Google = $200,000 Amazon = $200,000 Donations to Trump's inaugural fund in 2025: Meta = $1,000,000 Tim Cook = $1,000,000 Sam Altman = $1,000,000 Google = $1,000,000 Amazon = $1,000,000 The oligarchy is here.

As ever, the loss of something good and useful for Americans is framed as a loss for Democrats — in the mass media, everything becomes just a political football to be kicked back and forth instead of examined for its impact on everyday citizens regardless of political party.

Jimmy Carter was a national treasure. RIP. #RIPPresidentCarter

"I never thought they'd deport *my* indentured immigrant servants," sobs man who spent $44.2 billion electing the Deport All the Immigrants Party www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...

Can someone let me know when Bari Weiss does 10,000 words on this terrible regime of censorship at Twitter? I’ve been told that this is the most important story in the world and proof of how evil the elites are and why we should distrust everything “they” say.

Suddenly mad that we'll never get a Discworld book in which the wizards invent something like Large Language Monsters that eat everyone's stuff before regurgitating it, and Vimes arrests them all for being bloody stupid

he's a 78 year old incoming president via historically narrow margins promising fascism while ineligible for another term with a single vote to spare in the house, any democrat who looks at that situation and with a straight face says "we have to work with them" deserves to be ejected from the party

Brief thread on how we got here: Since the GOP won control of the House 2 years ago they have not passed a single appropriations package into law. Government has operated at funding levels set by Dems 2 years ago via continuing resolutions every few months. This is not normal.

www.nytimes.com/2024/12/18/o... This captures what I feel. An opposition party needs to be assertive and direct in a way the Democrats aren’t doing yet. The Democrats need to be a true opposition party. This is not politics as usual. They have to address that.
