Israel can and should ensure prisoners are treated humanely.
That doesn't change the fact that Hamas is holding innocent Israelis as hostages to negotiate the release of despicable murderers. And the occasional Fateh dude they want to murder themselves.

And the only approach that's ever allowed to be spoken is that they're stuck there until there is a Palestinian state, and it's Israel's job to give them that state at the expense of its own security, and the rest of the world can just send money in via UNRWA so nothing changes.

Call Me Back emergency podcast this week made a good point, that since 2022 6M Ukrainian refugees have been taken in by neighboring countries during the war with Russia, meanwhile 2M Gazans are expected to just stay put in a war zone and cannot go anywhere.
