it's tough out there for federal workers right now. People working on space missions have always been "paid" partly in the satisfaction and thrill of exploring where no one has been before, followed by the excitement of sharing those discoveries with the public. When morale drops, that pay drops.

Composite of several images captured by Europa Clipper’s thermal imager. Red areas are about 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees C), and purple regions are about -190 F (125 C).

@alexwitze.bsky.social Have you asked LPI directly for comment? This seems an important distinction. USRA manages LPI, but we need to understand whether LPI has gone rouge.

Given no one else had forced the issue, I was going to ask (but was left standing at the mic) whether SMD has input to the RIF process, and whether whether missions at various stages—even those launched—are at risk. Afterward answers to me were: yes, and they don’t know (which I interpret as yes).

Give yourself permission. Take it a day at a time. Help others understand your needs and capabilities. (It took me 1.5 years to recover.)

No! Tell them the EOs are illegal and enjoined by a federal court. Do not comply in advance. www.pillsburylaw.com/en/news-and-...
