Back in the 70’s most of us lived on 4 TV station territory with 1-3 radio stations. Hence the generally shared popular culture. Today with literally 100’s of choices (my kid listens to Japanese Vocaloid radio non-stop) any presumption of a generally shared popular culture is likely far off the mark

Heading into Duluth at the top of the hill a truck leaving had a rack of 4 levitate and land on the highway divider and left lane. No cotter pins in holding the rack to the trailer… scared the shit out of me. The only time I made an emergency stop in traffic…didn’t get hit in either direction.
