Over the past month, Cowboys have been teasing a potential change in approach to free agency. If they actually do it, who are the biggest fish that would be a good fit? A look at Tier 1 free agents in @TheAthletic's top-150, and possible fits in Dallas www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

Last year, the two words that became the banner of the Cowboys' offseason came from Jerry Jones. "All in." This year, it appears that slogan has evolved, delivered to the masses by Stephen Jones today here at the Combine. "Selectively aggressive." Buckle up.

mock draft szn, so let’s get into a seven-round Cowboys mock (fwiw, I don’t see some of these players being available where they were picked, which is why I had to pick em when they were there in the simulator 🤷🏽‍♂️) Addressing DL, RB top priorities ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/612...

i have never felt more impassioned to boycott all things Mavericks than right now, even more so than the night of the trade. Kicking fans out because they express their opinions at a sporting event, without profanity or belligerence? Coach can't be accountable with a postgame press conference? YIKES

As a lifelong Dallasite, I'm appreciative to be able to offer my perspective on the Luka Doncic trade. You can't truly grasp the depth of Mavs' fans' heartbreak and devastation until you understand how central Dirk Nowitzki is to it all ⤵️ 🚨 www.nytimes.com/athletic/611...

I thought being in the business squeezed out all of my sports fandom. Then Joe Burrow came along.

another layer to this mess is that for my generation, Dirk was basketball. Period. Luka became an extension of that — not just because he was a Euro the Mavs traded for on draft day, but the one-season crossover, embracing the city, on-court talent, etc. All of that is gone.

Cowboys unrestricted free-agent tiers: Who do they need to bring back most? Tier 1: Priority free agents. Tier 2: Actively pursue, but extend at right terms. Tier 3: Nice if things work out but no sweat if they don’t. Tier 4: Move on. *Bonus tier ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/610...

to people blaming/dunking on pro-Palestinian voters who withheld their vote, save it. Instead of blaming the voters, maybe the candidate should have had a stance worth supporting. It wasn't any different under the other administration. Just packaged prettier and moving at a different speed.

One thing we often do in big moments — good or bad — in sports is we look for comparables. We look for precedence. But the Luka Doncic trade is truly unprecedented. And no, the Herschel Walker trade doesn’t come close to matching it in absurdity ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/610...

Hey, my Substack is live. Come jump on in and join the fun, won't you? www.starsthoughts.com/p/welcome-to...

Bills got bailed out with that 4th down conversion because calling that fade on *3rd* and goal was an atrocity

no pressure josh allen but america is depending on you

easy to pile on the Giants, especially with the behind the scenes commentary, but idk how much Saquon would have elevated that team or if he'd be set up to succeed this way. the real mockery should be for contending teams that needed a RB and didn't pursue him in free agency.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer and the Cowboys: 5 priorities as he begins big new role ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/608...

In many ways, Brian Schottenheimer is a “safe” hire for Cowboys head coach. But this is also incredible risky by Jerry Jones. Jerry’s running out cards to play to keep the Cowboys’ fanbase engaged. The risk for fan apathy has never been higher ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/608...

seeing a bigger wave of followers coming here... have the bots made their way here as well or are more people just joining because Elon continues to be a dumbass?

things are heating up for the Cowboys with their coaching search, and an agreement could certainly come together soon, as in the next day or two. But Commanders and Eagles play at 2pm Sunday, if you're looking for another window when the news could drop.

How — and why — Brian Schottenheimer has entered the mix to legitimately be Cowboys’ next head coach www.nytimes.com/athletic/607...

As I watched the NFL playoffs on the best football weekend of the year, it felt like the Cowboys were everywhere (other than them actually playing). My stream of thoughts, culminating in an all-NFC East conference championship game ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/607...

your NFC Championship brought to you by the 2021 and 2022 Dallas Cowboys

this is one of those games that you'll remember where you watched it, even if you're not a lions or commanders fan

this 10-day wait for the natty feels like an eternity

We asked you, Cowboys fan, to answer some questions about the Cowboys’ coaching situation, from the decision to let Mike McCarthy go, to how the divorce was handled and what comes next. From Jon Machota and I, here’s what you had to say ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/606...

Everything is a fucking VIDEO I don't want to watch your fucking video! Just let me read an article! Honestly I believe short form video content on the whole is bad and is making our lack of attention span even worse but that's a separate rant

Cowboys are now in the business of pitching the position of head coach to candidates. What are the major selling points the team can pitch? And what are some things candidates should be wary of? 5 factors to consider — some of which overlap categories ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/606...

Last NFC championship game appearance Lions: 2024 49ers: 2024 Eagles: 2023 Rams: 2022 Bucs: 2021 Packers: 2021 Saints: 2019 Vikings: 2018 Falcons: 2017 Cardinals: 2016 Panthers: 2016 Seahawks: 2015 Giants: 2012 Bears: 2011 Cowboys: 1996 Commanders: 1992

cannot stress enough how stupid the boom mic guy storyline in season 9 of the office is. dumbest part of the whole show

A football game is so minuscule in the grand scheme of the grand devastation… but man, so happy for even a droplet worth of joy or reprieve that Rams win may have brought to the people of Los Angeles

Troy Aikman on ESPN talking about the Cowboys moving on from Mike McCarthy: “I love the Dallas Cowboys. I played there for 12 years. I wish them well. But to say it’s a coveted job… I’m not sure that I would agree with that.”

Whether you thought the Cowboys should extend Mike McCarthy or that they should move on, most would agree that the way the Cowboys reached a conclusion was unnecessary and messy. Bad for optics. Bad for the process of finding the next coach. Just... bad ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/605...

Until last week, all the Los Angeles Rams thought about was what they had earned: From a 1-4 start, to the playoffs. But fire changes a person’s world fast. From an improbable rise to a crisis much bigger than football, this is the story of the 2024 Rams: www.nytimes.com/athletic/605...

Jerry Jones has been constantly effusive in his praise, and more so his respect, for Mike McCarthy the past few months. And yet it appears he’s on the verge of handling this in one of the most disrespectful ways possible.

Can’t believe the committee let in any of these teams we’ve seen on the wrong side of the NFL playoffs so far

they switched cities, switched coaches and changed quarterbacks... but when it boils down to it, Chargers gonna Charger

used to see a hint of snow and gather family and friends for a tournament of tackle football. now just stay inside and hope the power and water stays on. kids, getting old sucks.

living in texas post-2021 means not really being fazed by the cold, no matter how much the temperatures drop, but being outright terrified of the domino effect it could have on everything else

The 2024 Cowboys seasons was one of the more absurd campaigns, for a franchise that is no stranger to absurdities. What contributed to that? From botching big contracts to personnel decisions, off-field distractions and injuries, it was a mess, from the start ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/604...

Prayers with SoCal 💔😞

At last! My latest is about my weekend with Ralph Strangis: what happened, what he's been up to, how he can help change hockey culture. Starting with his new site, a steak, and a blunt. www.dmagazine.com/sports/2025/...

Whether the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys changes for 2025 is unknown. What is clear, however, is that the general manager will be the same person it’s been since 1989. Jerry Jones. @saadyousuf126.bsky.social has more ⤵️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/603...

This industry constantly reminds us how brutal it can be and that nothing is promised. Somehow, I’ve managed to squeeze out eight years covering my hometown NFL franchise, the last two as a full-time beat writer. Sincere thanks to all who have supported me. Never taken for granted.
