Whitley bay is full of surprises.

This should be really useful…

One of our Let Teachers SHINE winners has just launched this new online teaching resource.

The unbelievable condescension we’re already seeing today towards working class people- suggesting they don’t travel to Europe or their kids might not want to go to university and study in Europe- is quite something to behold.

I increasingly believe in the need for a new leftist party.

I increasingly believe in the need for a new leftist party.

Eighty years ago, enemies laid down their arms. Since then, we, Europeans, have built something extraordinary: a Union of peace, democracy, and solidarity. An anchor of stability. Our Union was born as a peace project, and it remains one today.

Interesting to speculate on the impact of making languages gcse significantly easier than others but leaving its prominence in performance tables untouched. It would boost entries straight away - and while those who passed would pass at a lower level, there’d be a lot more of them…

It seems about time I shouted a bit about this book. It came out 4years ago, and has done me proud - getting me picked up by @charlotteseymour.bsky.social and then Bodley Head. But more and more the themes of it seem to hit a nerve right now. 1/ www.waterstones.com/book/fit/sam...

Just researching the new book, and starting to get very excited. It’s going to be a long process, but I’m already learning so much.

Planted a tree.

I love blossom.

Big egg.

So excited to get going with this!

I am obsessed by cup and ring marked stones.

@lucyfoulkes.bsky.social not quite what you’re after but interesting…

Teen Warned Not To Accept Group Chat Invites From National Security Advisors She Doesn’t Know

It might not seem like the major issue, but the historical illiteracy of an American administration complaining that freeloading Europeans haven't done enough to militarily control the Suez Canal is quite the thing, eh?

Game of chess?

This time I got the link on. Apparently I’m a ‘dissident teacher’ - who knew? Important clarification though - I agree ditch GCSE, but I don’t agree on maths. To say something is only worth learning based on use or need is exactly the problem. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Ooh - “dissident teacher Sammy Wright” - I like it! GCSEs harm our young people. Ministers should have the guts to abolish them – and start again

1. Today the Tories unveil their new policy: ripping up the commitment to net zero by 2050. Kemi Badenoch, with no evidence, claims "it can’t be achieved without a serious drop in our living standards or by bankrupting us." What the evidence shows is the opposite. We can't prosper without it. 🧵

Absolutely cracking day on the Cheviot - including a rare ice waffle.

I know I’m shouting into the void, but I want to state how vile Trump’s actions are. To cut intelligence sharing, enabling Russian murder of Ukrainians, then to excuse Putin is beyond sick. To say he’s doing this to push for peace when Z is literally saying he is ready for talks now is gobsmacking.

The US has blood on its hands. Russia launches huge strikes across Ukraine after US halts intelligence-sharing

I don’t know what to say. Just sat up drinking with our Ukrainian lodgers. It feels like the end of something - the end of any pretence that there might be international rules, or justice. I keep thinking of how hard people fought 80 yrs ago to create a world governed by law. All fucked now.

This is 1938. What you say now is what you will need to defend in 30 years time.
