A helpful guide to the current state of US trade policy:

Financial markets 2, Lettuces 0

Let’s break this down: in summary- he’s shat his pants because US treasury bonds were being sold off like lemonade in a desert. He’s fucked up big time. And any other spin is bullshit.

‘As you can see, Southampton are still in with a chance of ending up with the lowest ever Premier League points total, it’s a very bad total, a lot of people are saying maybe the worst we’ve ever had’

Elon Musk has to pay people to like him, but we’re happy to hate him for free.

Dear American citizens, whatever you wish more German citizens would have done in 1933, do that now.

Two questions for Democratic Congress members: 1. How would you act if you were in a constitutional crisis? 2. What else would you need to know that you're in a constitutional crisis?

This is very very bad. Uk/bbc please step up. Voice of America staff put on leave, Trump ally says agency 'not salvageable' - www.reuters.com/business/med...

Ghost of US Christmas future. It is just a question of when.

Extraordinary scenes in Serbia’s capital Belgrade right now. Around 500,000 people are on the streets in what may be the biggest protest in Serbian history. All demanding the resignation of President Vučić & his government. What began as a student protest is now a full democratic uprising. 🇷🇸

The subset of MAGA-ville who are "western chauvinists"/white nationalists are all like "now that Emperor Trump is in charge we can rebuild America as an ethnostate dominated by European-descended people." Meanwhile actual living Europeans are like "you people are a fucking embarrassment."

turns out when you legitimate a taste for bigotry people gravitate to the parties that serve it as an entree rather than as a garnish

A President reduced to car salesman is historically degrading. But there’s something else very revealing in all this: amidst growing protests & collapsing sales, Musk is panicked.

Tusk is really rising to the occasion www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/w...

Let this sink in.

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Two thoughts following a mad week: 1 the US/Putin have successfully moved the terms of ‘peace’ to ‘existing ground realiry’ and ‘no nato’. Two weeks ago Ukraine and most of the west were at ‘pre invasion’ or even ‘pre 2014’ and ‘yes nato’. …contd

The trip I got to take to Finland schools to see their media studies curriculum in action was absolutely amazing. The curriculum there starts early and then continues in the form of adult education that is very affordable. It's part of what inspired me to start @darktimesacademy.bsky.social

Just so we're clear was it not a crisis when it was the other way around?

Keir Starmer has been a credit to the UK this week. On behalf of the whole of Europe he attempted polite reasoning and diplomacy, with a dose of flattery (which I'm sure he personally found excruciating). But today, he refused to cower, hide or succumb to fear of Tr*mp, and he did the right thing.

Allies.

How much richer would the US need to be for Trump etc to think ‘you know what - we’ve done ok from the world order since 1945’?

EU + closest friends, including the UK, Norway, and Switzerland, have around 20 times the GDP and 5 times the population of Russia. We need to stand up, while the US finds its soul.

Anecdotal European stuff: I have spoken to a few Italians about the US “situation” lately and all are pretty much asking themselves the same question: where are the American opposition leaders? Where are Obama, Harris, Biden? Their absence is as horrifying as the acts of the current administration.

Here's the speech if you haven't heard it. 13 minutes of your time. Share it with your American friends and neighbours, because they won't see it otherwise. Circulate it in Mexico and Denmark, France and the UK, Panama and Germany, Poland and Estonia, and especially -- especially -- Ukraine.

Is there a word for when a bunch of private citizens following orders from an unelected billionaire occupy government buildings and cut off communications

Honest suggestion for @thedemocraticparty.bsky.social #dncchair meeting - tear up the agenda tomorrow. Don't cancel the vote but hold a press conference on the shit that's going down. Don't wait on Jeffries and Schumer. The media isn't going to cover it until someone treats it like an emergency.

Heroic!

This has just appeared in my Linked In feed. I have two comments: 1 vile sentiments 2 if anyone thinks that Rupert Lowe has just decided as a jobbing MP that he fancies doing a few posts on Linked In, they are asleep - this will be a very carefully developed and managed campaign in a new place - LI
