glad to talk to @keeanga.bsky.social @itsmccarthy.bsky.social, @danieldenvir.bsky.social, about our increasingly weird political situation and the role that identity politics plays in it. even if this episode isn't for you, @thedigradio.bsky.social is a gold mine thedigradio.com/podcast/woke...

I am a signatory of this letter, but I am also a keen observer of my field since the genocide started in 2023. The gap opening between parts of my field is massive and does not follow prior methodological divides. International law is a discipline in crisis. voelkerrechtsblog.org/statement-by...

Notably, the Trump Organization is a family business devoted to personal branding, not a publicly-traded company accountable to a board of directors and to shareholders who can review its finances. And while Tesla is publicly traded, Xitter is Musk's personal property.

The comeback of the Left in Germany is sensational. Almost written off ahead of elections, they won 6 districts and almost 9% of votes + are biggest party in Berlin and among young voters. Also only party to not campaign on anti-immigration but to focus on affordable rent and cost of living

'In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.' is such a beautiful indictment of bourgeois culture.

Once upon a time, the social democrats were the workers’ party in Germany. In the election today the extreme right AfD gained 3x more support from workers than the SPD.

Palestinians and their allies have protested relentlessly and, at times, heroically, not only to stop a genocide but to salvage and preserve core humanitarian principles governing life within the United States. Their target all along has been fascism, including but not limited to Trump.

In this piece, I contextualize the outlandish plan to deport Palestinians from Gaza in the long history of imperial statecraft & nation-state foundation/consolidation. Unlike a recent WSJ article on the subject, I don't think this is a good idea #Gaza #EthnicCleansingOfPalestine jacobin.com

During my tenure, I witnessed senior officials under intense pressure from ministers to skew the legal assessment. Reports were returned with instructions to “rebalance” the findings – to downplay evidence of civilian harm and emphasise diplomatic efforts www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

So yes, we all know that EDI (DEI) is hollow liberal trash. Indeed it's specifically a set of liberal measures designed to contain more radical demands, and rearticulate them as demands totally compatible with the status quo. It's why these measures naturalise and de-materialise racism.

hill i been dying on is that externalization/outscourcing of migration detention is template for global policing, new bilateral trade agreements, and pillar of global & regional imperialism of this era. what was normalized for migrants is boomeranging for "citizens" already also disenfranchised.

Agree with @economist.com about dangers of further eroding the prohibition against territorial conquest. Curious there’s no mention of Israel’s land grabs, including of the Golan Heights which Trump recognized in his first term and Biden refused to rescind. foreignpolicy.com/2022/12/06/b...

I hope people come to understand what we’re dealing with isn’t due to a lack of nuanced understanding of different approaches to addressing racism. They’re not looking for your reasonable middle ground or more compelling argument. They don’t care if you prefer a different intellectual framework.

The fixation on "il/legality" is tripping people up, I think.

ICJ President Sebutinde has been credibly accused of plagiarism, and the source is stunning: Douglas Feith was US Under Secretary of Defense and key architect of the illegal 2003 Iraq War. His career is defined by opposition to international law & it is unbefitting that any ICJ judge would cite him

cool how Judith Butler said the gender critical movement is ideologically incapable of offering resistance to the coming fascism and got pilloried for using big words, and now official GC organisations are releasing statements of support for Trump's first acts as returning president

Great reporting. The Israeli army said that most people killed in bombing a Beirut apartment block were Hezbollah. The BBC found that nearly all were in fact civilians, and a third were children. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Boy, it’s a good thing science isn’t political

We need so much more Lenin, now more than ever. There is, I think, the caricature of Lenin of just abstract commitment the rrr-evolution! but there's a more specific, arguably more political Lenin who speaks to so much:

Occasional reminder that after October 7th, an Israeli defense official announced that Gaza would be reduced to a “city of tents.” The Biden administration willingly facilitated that objective. www.nytimes.com/video/world/...

After 15 months of genocide.

So relentless has been Israel’s assault, and so complete the destruction in northern Gaza that a former Israeli defence minister described the military’s actions there as ‘ethnic cleansing’. Here's how the Israeli military erased a town of 200,000 people in Gaza. on.ft.com/3DTS14e

Mexico has sent a position paper to the UNSC on the right to self-defense under the UN Charter. It insists that one State may not use force against a non-State actor on the territory of another State without the latter's consent, and rejects the "unwilling or unable" doctrine.

A peer-reviewed study published in The Lancet estimates more than 64,000 deaths in Gaza due to traumatic injury between Oct. 7, 2023 and June 30, 2024 — a figure 41% higher than the Gaza Health Ministry’s official count. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

Nothing “new” or celebratory about another day in another year of this ongoing extermination. It’s hard to feel anything but the constant pit in my stomach & sickness in my heart.

I want Palestinians to have “the dignity of ordinary days.” I cannot comprehend that we are witnessing the extermination of a people and we are unable to stop it.
