Reading it with her tonight made me so proud. To her, there was no reason for it to be banned. Let me know if you or anyone else you know wants to join. Catherine’s LOVES a captive audience

This question really makes me think about the bending of “rules” in order to parse out how and why particular literacies work and for whom. Although our field sees literacies as everywhere, that’s not equally understood across all Discourses.

I agree, I started exploring some affective work in my dissertation and I want to do more. There’s a lot there particularly when we think about notions of motivation for literacy

I’m currently teaching an out of school literacies course and it’s been really remarkable hearing my students’ responses on what “counts” and pushing behind their previous concepts of literacies. Even asking “what isn’t a text”

I’ve been really shaped by New literacies and also notions of affinity spaces particularly (most recently) interpretive communities and how these literacies move across digital spaces. I’ve been thinking about the sponsorship roles that influence our understandings as well

And the WHY we understanding things the way we do. That context matters too. It’s also peeling back layers of dominant understandings and bias.

I view literacies as the ways we make sense and construct the meanings around us. For me, my work tends to look at digital spaces (TikTok for now) and the bound systems in place and how engagement can (re)define our literacies and understandings.
