This blog is really interesting. The “school on fire” metaphor is particularly engaging For us, so much of this rings true with our situation with AD - stevebheadteacher.wordpress.com/2023/08/29/s... #KidsMH #KidsAnxiety #ChildAnxiety #SchoolAnxiety

If the system supported these children and believed them, ALL deaths could be avoided. It failed Semina badly! 💔 Semina Halliwell: No evidence authorities could have prevented 12-year-old's overdose death, coroner says news.sky.com/story/semina...

Ffs…. Just WHY? How are our vulnerable children being allowed to be treated like this? It makes me sick to my stomach!!!🤬🤬💔💔👇 #SupportDontPunish #BanTheRoom Pic credit to Beth Morrison #CalumsLaw #HarrysLaw

I was reminded tonight that ABA still exists, And I still can't believe the argument for ABA is either 1) Traumatize the autistic person so they deal with scary society "easier" 2) Make them as "independent" as possible so they can navigate society You know what reduces functioning? Trauma & PTSD

An Autism journey is a lot about the power of words and their consequences. Words give access to services Words help with welfare Words end discrimination Words empower and create choice Words save lives (suicide avoidance) Learn to use words for PRACTICALLY better outcomes!

How to resist? Being you. Right now factions of people want you to disappear, blend in, be mute. Don’t. Be seen. Be heard. @womened.bsky.social

My # 1 piece of advice for anyone pursuing an autism evaluation, ESPECIALLY if you're high masking... Do NOT go into the evaluation without first reading and understanding the autism criteria and writing down every example you can think of from your life for each one...

Although she hasn't posted on here @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social does have an account so maybe we should all follow her to try to encourage the DfE to move across? #EduSky

I think #inclusion has to start with values and I'm not convinced that Ofsted can find a way to measure those, especially when there's so much focus from them on meeting goals. It seems to me that inclusion is about finding ways to be flexible and that doesn't mix well with hard targets. #EduSky

If you're the education secretary and you're feeling the need to criticise both parents and schools simultaneously then maybe you need to reflect on what it is about the system that is causing so many issues with it rather than just passing the buck?

Let’s show more kindness & understanding to those on the autism spectrum. A little patience, empathy, & acceptance can make a world of difference. #AutismAwareness #InclusionMatters

Wow I've read her speech now and way to go in making people feel inadequate, increasing pressure and stress and making teacher recruitment and retention less likely. schoolsweek.co.uk/bridget-phil...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Absolutely! great advice. Having open, age-appropriate conversations helps children feel safe, informed, and confident discussing important topics. It builds trust and reassures them that they can always come to you with questions. #Communication #ChildSafety #Trust

What is autism? Worth a quick run-through of the modern understanding of autism, since so many teams are still using the outdated DSM-5 descriptions from 2013. So many changes in the last 12 years. This is all from research studies. Thread. It's part of wider neurodivergence, a brain difference/

Same stuff, just now with pretty colours. What a waste of an opportunity.

I don't have the energy to respond coherently to this latest Ofsted nonsense because it's all just rearranging the deckchairs. With added workload. 🤦‍♀️🙄

We carry far too much guilt for things that never needed an apology in the first place. Be kind to yourself . #kindness #SelfCare (Picture by lubyandlola)

Restraint collapse anyone? I have heard of people having an “episode” that leads to them seeking a diagnosis. This is how someone I know got diagnosed; his routine oof work collapsed with COVID and he fell apart emotionally. His work paid. autismawarenesscentre.com/what-is-rest...

@ruthswailes.bsky.social on the UK's need to better understand young children's needs when creating policy for them, rather than “lesson plans” for toddlers resembling those used for 6YOs& aspirations to teach 2YOs about phonics and history. #EduSky yorkshirebylines.co.uk/news/educati...

For those interested in learning more about distinct anxiety (the type of anxiety specific to autistic traits/brain wiring) I created some video content on this that I can't share here because it's longer than 60 seconds. I'll link to the videos below. Also, follow me on YouTube for video content.

For many Autistics, interoceptive cues like hunger or thirst can easily get missed, and when focused on an interest or passion these cues can be ignored for hours and you might suddenly come out of a flow state and be starving & really busting for the toilet! autistic-revolution.com/blog/f/how-o...

Happy Sunday relax and recharge but remember every day is about #AutismAwareness #Autism

Trauma impacts the very best of us, sometimes challenging us beyond our limits. It’s the way we come out the other side that counts, by maintaining dignity, grace and self-respect 💛🐦‍⬛ Image: Therapy With Maggie LPC #DaddyBlackbird #SuicideLoss #Trauma #Resilience #Recovery #Hope

I was told it was National Yorkshire Pudding Day – yes, really – and I thought why not start early and have it for breakfast. So #RecipeOfTheDay is Dutch Baby! Can also heartily recommend a topping of clotted cream and golden syrup www.nigella.com/recipes/dutc...

Dear Government. Forcing more & more disabled people into poverty does not save the taxpayer money. What did you think disabled people do with money? Stash it under the mattress? It goes back into the economy. Cold, malnourished people become very ill & cost the NHS a fortune. Please get a grip.

Today is a poignant day for me because autism dominates my life. My loved one is autistic and so are some people in my extended family. Hans Asperger “discovered” autism. Ad part of it is named after him. He sent children to T4. www.nature.com/articles/d41... #HolocaustMemorialDay

Btw today is not the day to post about disabled or SEND children being over-diagnosed or not needing help or taking up too many resources. Learn our history today.

I think the general political world message is don’t dare get sick or be disabled .

They came for the sick and disabled, but people did not say anything, because they weren't sick or disabled. We know consequences, of such attitudes.

Lived experience with autism teaches you about the practical consequences of autism. The journey needs you to adapt quickly to events. Sometimes you just make it up as you go. To help you react more quickly and effectively this exists amzn.eu/d/5j86c7v

This is why i fight. Every day is awareness day for every autistic person and their families. www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/c...

It’s shameful that an incoming govt has had to legislate because since 2010, the UK has sidelined vulnerable kids. It’s another symptom of the right wing cruelty US Bishop Budde so bravely articulated this week. We must do better. #EduSky yorkshirebylines.co.uk/news/educati...

#mental-health #SEMH #CAMHS Child mental health support is so difficult to access. Why do they wait until a child is at crisis point? Surely early intervention could help prevent a lot of young people reaching that point www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

2012-2022 saw a 65% increase in children admitted with mental health concerns. There has been over 500% increase in admissions for CYP with eating disorders in the same time period. This is THE health crisis of our time, and it is barely making the news. #KidsMH www.rcpch.ac.uk/news-events/...

I don't see how the DfE finds a solution to helping schools be more inclusive without creating more flexibility in curriculum and approaches to behaviour, less rigid forms of accountability and sorting out the mess that is Ofsted.

For me #inclusion has to mean responding to the needs of the children who actually attend your setting, rather than the demands of external pressures. The child is not for the setting; the setting is for the child. #EduSky

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” – Cardinal Mermillod

journals.lww.com/co-psychiatr... Today, a team keen on ABA also want to see electric 'shock' therapy (ECT) for autistic people, to stop us e.g. seeming depressed about our lives, etc. By p6, they mention, casually, that no-one's bothered checking for side effects in autistic people yet. Sigh.
