You ever come up with something so cool that you want to tell everyone about it, but you can't because it's the big twist for your next book? Because I am STRUGGLING to not shout fun plot things from the rooftops right now

#FantasyIndiesFebruary Day 12 Adeline isn't anti-romance but is a realist. She's old enough to know that grand gestures and dramatic love confessions only happen in movies and has love/a relationship firmly in the "nice to have, but don't need to have" category.

Me: comes up with an in-universe item for a story. Important to the narrative, but it serves a neutral purpose. Also me: Hmm, I need to give it the most f-ed up backstory possible.

Sometimes, I write with such intense focus that it feels comparable to trying to defuse a bomb, but most of the time, it feels like herding cats as I try to rein in the 147 different and disparate story ideas to finish the scene in front of me.

Casual reminder that I have a newsletter, where I talk about my writing journey, books I'm reading, and whatever happens to be on my mind. Also, there's always cats of some kind involved. www.saralilienfeld.blog/newsletter

I posted a new blog post earlier today www.saralilienfeld.blog/post/what-i-...

I woke up with a flooded basement, so I hope your day is going better than mine πŸ™ƒ

I'm close to being finished with my revisions, yet the finish line feels both so close and also 24,511 miles away

At what point can I claim something is a stylistic choice versus just being overused?

Comp titles are so weird Because I describe one WIP as "Supernatural x True Detective" and another I just explain as "Buffy, if Whedon wasn't a fucking coward" And the second one confuses people.

Do you ever starting doing something time-consuming/labor intensive to prove a point, only to make the point you wants to disprove? In trying to prove I didn't have too many characters with names all starting with the same letter, I made a list of every named character, and yeah, I was wrong.

I used a random name as a filler for a character, while I was trying to decide on the "real" name I wanted to use. I wrote several drafts with the filler name. The problem? The filler name I used was "Sam". Search and replace so far has been less than ideal.

Practical Magic x True Detective A witch returns home to Kentucky and discovers a darkness has taken root. As violent deaths begin to plague her small town, she’ll have to confront her past if she hopes to uncover who’s responsible before the darkness destroys her home. πŸ“– #BluePit #W #A #F

I submitted my book to a publisher this morning. Now, the waiting begins...

Finally put my heated mattress pad on my bed. It's life-changing. I am cozy and comfortable, which means I'm actually writing again!

Sometimes, revisions are "I need to rework this whole section" and sometimes, they're like "let me replace a 8-word sentence with a 7-word one" Guess which one I've been doing for the last few days?

My two cats have about fifteen nicknames between them. I wonder what they think their names are.

Guess who has to cut a good 10k words from her manuscript? Why did I do this to myself?

I sure did air quite a few personal grievances about real life crap in this book about witchcraft and death. But no, I'm doing fine.

My favorite part of writing fantasy? Getting to just make stuff up. Oh, dragons don't exist in the real world? Well, in the universe in my head, they do and they have the same personalities as orange cats.

#FantasyIndiesDecember Day 5 - MCs' friends and family Adeline doesn't have many friends because she doesn't let too many people close to her. Her family consists of her twin brother, an aunt, and some cousins. Jakob has four older half-sisters and a few people he'd call "sort-of" friends.

spotify wrapped 916 BC you listened to that one guy with a lyre in the marketplace 403 times. honestly he's pretty weirded out. don't you have barley to thresh

I'm a little late to starting #fantasyindiesdecember but better late than never, right? Last Read: The Book Witchy by Melanie Karsak - a cute holiday rom com Current Read: Winter's Haven by E.S. Scrivner - compelling so far Next Read: The Thirteenth Child by Erin A. Craig - the blurb drew me in

Every time I write a "you should also follow me on [insert platform here]" post, I die a little bit inside because it feels so cringey. Like, do I want to connect with people? Yes. Do I feel weird asking people to connect with me? Also yes.

For someone who's in the "I don't really care about it" camp in my own life, I've spent way too much time researching the astrological signs of my characters over the last two days.

Thinking really hard about what you want to write next is basically the same thing as writing, right? Right? I didn't waste my weekend, if that's how it works.

Have I complained about how warm its been lately? Yes. Am I now complaining about how cold it is? Yes. The duality of humanity, everyone.
