Whoa. We are on the same team. Nobody likes what is going on. Lets leave it at that.

Ok, Guardian is about the best source of info I get unbiased. Funny that it is UK based to get reporting on US.
comment in response to post
Do you have a reference for that report? I just know that a shutdown is horrible for everyone.
comment in response to post
I did not think there were any good options at all. If the Republicans had shut the government down by lack of their votes, then they would own the horror that results. The blowback was enough to stop funding for the wall in first term.
comment in response to post
Unfortunately I believe you are correct. Damn, I have told everyone I knew about the dangers before the election, yet here we are.

He can use the filibuster, that is why Repub will go for reconciliation for their tax cut. But to use it on the CR, Republicans would probably welcome that.

I don't know what that is for. I am boycotting Target and Walmart because they caved on DEI. There are a bunch of targeted boycotts by some guy we follow on Instagram.
comment in response to post
I enjoy your analogy. I'm frustrated, but not sure what we are going to do.
comment in response to post
Things are far from fine - I agree they are terrible. I just don't think shutting down the government was a good idea. Personally I am boycotting Target and Walmart, plus other boycotts.

I think all politicians should retire at 65. Goes for Supreme Court judges also. New York can't vote Chuck out until 2029.
comment in response to post
Dude, he does not have the votes. If he had the votes then they could do a lot of stuff. Shutting down the government is not being "in charge". I don't like what is happening, and Chuck should have retiried, but shutting down the government is not useful.

While I do not agree with destruction of property, what about Jan 6 - they assaulted police officers because they did not like what happened. At least people are reacting to the actions of the administration, not the vote.

The irony of that is that in 1994 Ukraine gave up their nukes with security promises from UK, USA, Russia. "To solidify security commitments to Ukraine, the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom signed the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances on December 5, 1994."

LOL, college basketball. Baylor is a very expensive school so if he got a full-ride scholarship then it's worth something, but they get paid zero.

This clip has only the Jackie Robinson take on why diversity is important, and how to argue that fact. youtu.be/8BByaJt9y_w?...
comment in response to post
About Wal Mart, I am boycotting them and Target - for their positions on DEI reversal.
comment in response to post
Good points for sure with the zero empathy. I simply cannot listen to his voice anymore. I will not listen to news clips, just read about what he said ( always lies ).

Slow down. To me Trump is a straight-up white nationalist that does not respect any limitations - he has cheated his whole life - the draft, business, marriage, taxes. And he tried to cheat the election of 2020. Not a terrorist, but very dangerous to all of us.

I was totally surprised. I told my kids that my generation had failed them, that we allowed such a poor choice to even be on the ballot. Unfortunately they have to wait two years to vote to put people in congress to check this maddness.
comment in response to post
Also anyone who voted for him. "Conservatives" have lost their way - this guy wants to cut taxes and reduce the government, but also is in with white nationalists and does not respect the legal system or norms. So anyone who did not vote for Harris is responsible for this mess.
comment in response to post
White nationalist stuff here. Jackie Robinson, Colin Powell, Tuskegee Airmen, Code Talkers - any people of color. It is sickening for it to be 2025, and feel like 1960’s.
comment in response to post
We hope not. MAGA wants USA to go back 50 years or more, but the population has changed. What has amazed me is how so many people voted against their own best interests.
comment in response to post
Violence is not the way. Not sure what protests or sit-ins would do either. We can do boycotts. We have to hope that the courts will save America, or that the "conservatives" that voted for him realize that he is not with them.

I have been amazed at how little people understand what USAID does. Much of USAID's budget is spent on health programmes, such as offering polio vaccinations in countries where the disease still circulates and helping to stop the spread of viruses which have the potential to cause a pandemic.
comment in response to post
Darn his term runs thru 2028, and he is 74 now

I have been of the opinion that all senators should retire at 65. I have been a fan of Chuck for many years, but yeah I'll contribute to AOC to replace him. We need (yound ) people who are worried about their future to be making decisions for the country.
comment in response to post
I first heard about the code talkers from a John Wayne movie. Although Wayne did not serve he lived thru WW2 and those Americans knew it took everything and everybody to win. The people removing all these references have no honor.
comment in response to post
I'm not sure what he is proposing. I thought that his tax cuts from 2017 were already in place ( 39.6 to 37 % for the top bracket ) and he just wants to extend them. If that were true then there would be no changes to the upper brackets.
comment in response to post
If I believed that such a protest would make a difference then I would. LOL impeachment we tried twice. The only thing that is going to work, in my opinion, is that the idiots that voted for him see their economic conditions deteriorate. Fortunately Trump's love of tarriffs will do that.
comment in response to post
It's hard to say how this situation with Trump breaking all kinds of laws is going to resolve. We normal people believe America has lost her way - the errors are too numerous to mention - how we treat our friends, the poor, erosion of the rule of law, ...
comment in response to post
Nope. Republicans are backing a lawless group. In no way would democrats use the justice department like they do. Also, Republicans only want to cut taxes, but use the government money to help their businesses. Easily to pick which group is better for most Americans.
comment in response to post
Absolutely. I have to hope our northern friends know that its only a small subset of idiots that have an issue with Canada, and unfortunately they are running our government now.
comment in response to post
Me too :)
comment in response to post
Which is why I am on Bluesky.
comment in response to post
LOL, I purchased a hat with the Canadian flag on it to wear when I go shopping.
comment in response to post
Yeah, Canada has always been our friend. Remember when Iran took all our hostages. The CIA smuggled some out, but only because Canada hid them in their residence until we could get them out. I don't blame Canada for being pissed off at how our Government is treating them.
comment in response to post
This is what we are doing - our little part. Target, Walmart never shopping there again.
comment in response to post
In Missouri we have Hawley and Schmidt - terrible. I voted against them and contributed against both of them.
comment in response to post
It’s up 68% in Missouri $10 per dozen now
comment in response to post
I understand you are upset, I am also. There are no good options.
comment in response to post
Dude, some of us liberals think he is right. I donated to ActBlue in the last five election cycles and have voted Democratic every time, sent my kids to public schools. There are different opinions on this, even if we are on the same side.
comment in response to post
There is no good answer to this problem. The stupid voters gave the majority to Republicans. This is their fault. Shutting down the government is not going to help. We are in for pain until the next election.
