if you can: write the thing that sounds SUPER FUN in your head. because it will sound SUPER FUN on the paper. readers can tell if the writer had fun writing something, for the most part, cause the love of the craft and characters and everything shows through. no idea is too silly. write it anyway.

Ive had exactly this conversation with STEM students in my large history of science survey classrooms--some of them see eugenics as a "scientific, rational" and technologically sound solution to the "problems" of disability. Its anecdotal evidence, but there seems to be a more entrenched problem.
