There's supposed to be an AMA today on Reddit with an author of a book about school closures due to COVID and I don't think it's going to go the way the author expects.

No court can erase the history of trans people existing. www.reddit.com/r/AskHistori...

Publishers don’t pay for nonfiction books to be fact-checked, the author does out of their advance.

How do people who grew up during the Civil Rights era not understand that this is also a civil rights issue? If Schumer were senator in 1968, I feel like he'd complain that desegregation was a GOP attempt to distract from "kitchen table issues"

This isn't about protecting children. It's about policing a gender system that puts everyone in a pink box or a blue one, that gives people higher social value if they're pinker or bluer than their box-mates, and that puts the whole pink box below the blue.

Look at how much work the Court's abortion cases do here. The majority cites Dobbs to say that regulating a medical condition/procedure isn't sex discrimination, and another abortion case, Gonzales v. Carhart, to suggest that legislatures deserve discretion when there is scientific uncertainty.

This combined with the Supreme Court ruling means the world just got a lot scarier for trans kids and their loved ones. And there are going to be cis adults treating this as a win.

It is impossible not to read this in conjunction with the Supreme Court's heartrbreaking, awful decision in Skrmetti allowing states to deny transgender teens the health care they need.

Randi Weingarten (and another union leader) leaving the DNC is presenting a really interesting example of the difference between Twitter and BlueSky culture. Here, it's raising questions about DNC leadership. There, it's all in on why reporters didn't cover Randi has been a member of the DNC.

In the spring of 2008, I feared America was on the verge of war with Iran — and, believing that it’s good style to get to know people before you bomb them, I made “Rick Steves’ Iran,” a one-hour special that could (and would) only debut on PBS. Sadly, this special has become pertinent again today.

Delighted to see the following sentence in this morning's @chalkbeat.org round up: "Maud Maron, a former PLACE president and co-founder who played a key role in the transgender sports resolution, did not get reelected."

I'm going to say once again that shame is good.

Ryan is a fellow local committee member and did all the work setting up the ActBlue stuff. Ryan is smart! Ryan is wise!

Almost 3K has been raised so far! It would be so great to reach that $5000 goal well before Jenn's actual birthday! Please read through her thread to hear her share her goals for when 😁 she is elected. Please consider making a donation, each and every amount helps! And please repost! Thank you!

"We find that abortion restrictions ... significantly increased the rate of intimate partner violence for reproductive-aged women [by] about seven to 10 percent. These estimates imply at least 9,000 additional incidents of IPV among women in the “trigger ban” states" www.nber.org/papers/w3391...

I don't know Jenn personally, but I have been inspired by her work for years. I know she can win and her community will be better for it, so I made my little donation today.

I am LEGIT excited that I have an excuse to buy another pack of thank you cards. About to cross the halfway point and I have peopled more this weekend than I've peopled in a very long time.

This is heartbreaking. (via someone at the St. Paul rally)

For No Kings Day, a throwback to @askhistorians.bsky.social's election Meta post: "[Isadore Greenbaum] represented what everyone should strive to be: an obstacle, however small and seemingly inconsequential, in the path of fascism." www.reddit.com/r/AskHistori...

It is a disconcerting day but I am half-way to my goal and more determined than ever to take an oath of office this November.

There are a couple of kids in my nephews's class who weren't born in the US, and the class has decided (w/o teacher input) that if ICE shows up in they're all going to pretend not to speak English. 10yos reinventing "I am Spartacus" because they don't want their friends to get disappeared.

law enforcement officials say they made a proactive check at Rep. Hortman's home after a lawmaker who lived nearby was shot and found a "police vehicle in the driveway with emergency lights and what appeared to be a police officer at the door coming out of the house." He was actually the gunman.

Boosting again! Let's help Jenn reach her goal!!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Please help Jenn (and the adorable Steve!) meet her goal!

My very sweet rural 35k western WA town has a giant one of these monstrosities that I recently encountered while riding my bike. We need local folks on every board/ city council stopping this outrageous & frankly terrifying unchecked militarization - & investing in good stuff! Support Jenn!
