An entire generation of people are staring at functionally identical spectrograms of audio, desperately wanting to know which one "sounds better", and I know it seems unimportant, but this is absolutely a side effect of murdering the humanities in favor of STEM studies

It is a podcast currently reaching 1000 episodes and a TV show that aired 110 episodes!
If you need a mountain guide for the podcast, i would love to be of service! It's a daunting challenge to jump into 1000 episodes

I really wish Americans would rediscover how good it feels to flex our natural-born pettiness and stubbornness in the long-term, but we're accustomed to comfort

Bezos? Jeffrey Bezos? The guy who originally named Amazon Relentless in honor of his relentless libertarian pursuit of money and power? The guy who still owns the domain relentless.com which to this day redirects you to the Amazon homepage? That Bezos did this??

So for a sweet royalty payment of MAYBE $20 a year, all I have to do is give up a bunch of sensitive personal financial data instead of getting a paper check.
Almost seems not worth it.
Hey, almost seems like that's the point! Gee!

How is my sensitive bank information stored? "Securely at a level of security appropriate to the nature of the data concerned."
Great, that tells me absolutely nothing!

That version of "Mama Said Knock You Out" has been in my rotation for decades. I had to rip it directly from a crappy Youtube VHS upload

By the way, the above pics are direct screengrabs from the fanedit. My issues with AI remastering aside, the cleanup looks like a million bucks!

It's not about making SPINAL TAP a "better" movie, it's just a different experience -- and a really enjoyable one if you've previously sat through the workprints. Look for it! I doubt you'll think it's a waste of time.

Cut to the show that night as Ricky is now playing lead guitar AND singing lead with his incredible upper-register hair metal vocals. Girls the audience are literally trying to throw themselves at him in the front row while David seethes at Janine

One of my favorite additions to the film is when David's girlfriend, Jeanine, actually does a good job in finding Ricky, "the hottest lead guitarist in San Francisco" to replace Nigel for the remainder of the tour...

But what's most interesting is that the 50 minutes of reinstated footage underlines how much more tragic the SPINAL TAP story could have been. I appreciate that the Rob Reiner used a light touch toward the band's drama, but the edit shows how much worse the tour could have been for the band...

This fan-edit is not only a skillful distillation of the best bits from the cutting room floor, but the fan-editor put a LOT of work in both using AI-assisted remastering and manual video cleanup. A lot of fan-edits can be jarring when switching to unused footage. This is mostly seamless!

As someone who's seen these ultra-long workprints over his life, I can tell you (1) there's a high chaff-to-gold ratio in the unused footage, and (2) the low-ass video quality can be a high barrier to finish them, even for the seasoned pro used to terrible VHS-era bootleg quality.

You may (rightly) ask how can someone improve on the original, which is perfect and only 82 minutes long?
Fair: you can't improve on the original. It's a masterpiece.
But the amount of footage shot for SPINAL TAP resulted in 4- & 5-hour workprints, resulting in some fascinating editing choices.
