And I think Musk should agree to give you half of the profits from what’s left of X because Ukrainian hackers just really really like you (now that you’ve given them exactly what they wanted) and that will definitely protect him in the future. Probably.

I think this story raises some important questions. Was Vance wearing a suit? Was his daughter wearing a suit? Did he say thank you to the protestors, even once? It’s pretty disrespectful of him to litigate this on social media, honestly.

But Zelenskyy *hasn’t* caved. He’s issued a diplomatic non-apology statement and reiterated his (and Ukraine’s) previous position. As much as we’d all like to see him tell Trump to get fucked, you’re not seeing this as part of a larger process.

Dude, why do I keep seeing you pop up in reply to dozens of comments, repeatedly insisting that Zelenskyy has “capitulated” when he’s done no such thing? Do you really stand with Ukraine?

Highly recommend this substack as a thoroughly researched fact-checking resource, for western readers in particular ✅

Sadly, a lot of them believe that Zelenskyy was installed via the power of Nuland’s magic cookies, or whatever - and therefore believe he can be removed the same way. The imperialist thinking is not new.

The Mail on Sunday has (confusingly) a separate editor to the Daily Mail and occasionally takes a more liberal line (they backed remain during the Brexit vote, for example).

Ukraine will be no better off with a leader who bends to Trump’s whim, and Ukrainians know it. And what value do American security guarantees hold now? It’s increasingly obvious that this was a stitch-up from the start, and Trump’s priorities are clear. Time for Europe to tool up. (2)

Yeah, I mean that’s show business 😅 it just pains me a bit to see him promoted as having unique knowledge and insight, when it seems pretty clear to me that he’s overreached his material in order to try and produce what ‘sells’ rather than sticking to his core reporting skills.

He doesn’t include much, if any, reporting beyond the end of 2022, or any real coverage of the counteroffensive (or the material from his October 2023 article). Which suggests that the publication delay (it was originally slated for mid 2023) was a restructure, rather than just bringing up to date.

It could probably be edited down into something really decent (and half the length) by a competent editor - you just need to red pen all the breathless speculation over easily explicable moments and check that the source material actually supports the interpretations placed on it.

My impression is that he was probably sent away to ‘sex it up’ and turn it into a psychological portrait, but he didn’t have the necessary material or insight to do so successfully. It certainly reads, in places, like something that has been chopped up and reassembled.

The book was initially titled “The Fight Is Here” and was blurbed as a fly-on-the-wall account /extended version of Shuster’s articles. Publication was then delayed and it was rebranded as The Showman.

That’s interesting, because I could tell it was “off”. Admittedly I do listen to a lot of Zelenskyy content. And I share your concerns about AI audio more generally. But I don’t think it’s that good yet - to the point where the uncanny valley effect distracted me from the content.

He says that if territory currently controlled by Ukraine had NATO protection, it would make it possible to return temporarily occupied territories diplomatically, instead of through military force. This is NOT new; Zelenskyy's original stance was always diplomacy over bloodshed.

Well by that logic absolutely everything in Ukraine is his fault! Is it worth continuing this conversation? I’m not specifically talking about the loss of Mriya, but the point is that you clearly aren’t across the detail if you weren’t aware of the court case. You have made up your mind on vibes.

I don’t just mean that article. I mean reading more widely about the lead up to the full-scale invasion. But it looks like you’ve made up your mind already, which is a shame.

I’m not sure that is ‘well-established’, even though it’s often repeated (which is a different thing!). There’s a lot more nuance if you take the time to read into it, which it looks like you might not have done.
