If I'm anywhere close to being right about any of this it's probably at least somewhat off so if anyone has thoughts to add onto this or work off of the concept i'd love that.
End of thread for now.

So I guess in this theory Dess would be experiencing a nightmare induced by a dark fountain, turning her into the knight, drawing out the "darkness" within her and using her will (since she is a lightner) to act.

So basically my thought here is... The knight has a dark fountain inside. Going into even further speculation, trying to go by similar things that Ralsei has told us, it might just be that someone can become like a fantasy (more specifically a Nightmare) if they themselves have enough "darkness".

I don't exactly have a super strong basis to know what I'm about to suggest is possible, but the idea of titans being largely mindless creatures of darkness powered by dark fountains, and darkness allowing for fantasy to come to life, makes me think that the knight is experiencing the same thing.

The knight too, seems capable of some pretty "fantastical" feats, beyond just what a lightner entering a Dark World is capable of.
Including:
-the miracle of flight
-transforming their weapon
-whatever 2nd pic is, more of a side effect of it's... condition?
-transforming their body radically

Titans on their own are raw darkness, the "fear of the dark" as ralsei says it. No real mind of their own, but very formidable regardless. Such is the power of dark fountains.
Now where am i going with this?

The knight seems to be completely black with some white outlines. This is EXTREMELY similar to titan spawn and of course the actual titan itself. We KNOW titans have a dark fountain at their core, and that dark fountains by enshrouding an area in darkness allow for fantastical things to happen.

Something not entirely related but since this is my "knight thread of spoiler talk" I wanna actually talk about an intriguing observation about the knight as well and a possibility that might be wrong but at least worth thinking on.

What I can say though is that however "the knight" came to be seems fashioned intentionally after what has been seen within Chara already. Perhaps Gaster specifically made things turn out this way? For now I'm only providing food for thought. I don't feel confident in drawing any conclusion.

Naturally, I'm not really suggesting the knight is Chara or whatever. The closest thing we have to Chara in Undertale is the Vessel, or at least it was until the knight showed up while being some sick distortion of Dess. Is the vessel in any way involved with the knight? Maybe. I don't know.

Another thing that's noteworthy is that the knight seems to be very goal oriented and doesn't slow down until it's specifically being blocked from it's objective. This narrow focus does reminisce of Chara's own obsession with "efficiency".

To further the parallels to chara, your party members get taken to -999hp when they get defeated. It also helps that some of it's attacks just oneshot characters from full hp which you do technically also do to others in the geno route in undertale (I think this sucks as a mechanic but wtv).

Something else noteworthy is that after you "win" the fight against the knight it does these huge fuckoff attacks against your party members that instantly down them. It comes as sort of a shock and takes up the whole screen. It REALLY reminds me of slash at the end of the geno route.

And for why this is notable, I think it becomes pretty clear when you remember Chara's connection to knives/blades, slashing, as well as the color red.

There's also these blades that it uses against you. Both of them specifically turn red. Also since we're talking about the color red I'll throw in that when it slashes red is often there too.

Whats more the weapon it wields seems to specifically have a name as evidenced by the knight's theme and the item description of the weapon you get for defeating it. It seems to be called the Black Knife.

What particularly interests me however is that while this character is pretty easily discernable as Dess, it has some qualities to itself that that make it particularly similar to Chara. For one after the fight starts it's weapon transforms from an obvious baseball bat into some kind of blade.

Starting with the obvious horns, baseball bat, and the song you might've seen the lyrics to in the rhythm game section, it's pretty safe to say that this knight character is most likely none other than the lost girl December "Dess" Holiday. Most already agree though.
