According to ProPublica, dozens more pregnant and postpartum women have died in Texas hospitals since abortion bans were implemented, compared with maternal deaths in the state immediately before the pandemic.

This is so unbelievably gross. I don't even have words. Despicable.

A USAID contracting officer (who for obvious reasons is not disclosing her identity) says a company named after its founder Philip Green almost got its federal contract cancelled because the fools at DOGE thought it had something to do with "green" energy. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Awful: Internal USAID memo instructs employees to refrain from talking to the media about cuts in assistance to the most vulnerable or they may get fired, WaPo reports. Trumpworld knows this is a big political problem for them. Keep the focus on it. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/1915...

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

Waiting in a queue to get into the Kennedy Center website like its Coachella pre-sale was not something I had expected for 2025.

I appreciate a lot of lawyers, and their work is important and valuable. But: I can't get on board with the position that they/the courts will be our savior here. I think it's a bit of an arrogant take, especially considering this administration doesn't care about the legal system.

This guy deserves to lose his seat over "Red, White, and Blueland" alone.

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky

JFC SUSAN. WHAT IN THE HELL IS YOUR JOB AT THIS POINT. YOU SPINELESS, FAKE, IGNORANT, OLD LADY.

Anybody who works closely with young people, anybody who's had cause to visit a psychiatric unit, knows that the EOs are going to result in dead kids. That's not a maybe. That's a fact. And these fucking killers know it; want it. Whatever happens, let us never forget that.

REMINDER #4 4. Don’t grade on a curve Do not hold Republicans to a lower standard and do not hold Democrats to a higher one. When a Republican does something normal, recognize it is normal not exceptional. When a Democrat does something normal, recognize it is normal and not terrible.

I'm pretty sure The Kennedy Center's website hasn't seen that much traffic since Legally Blonde tickets went on sale.

SCOOP: Kash Patel took $25,000 from a production company with ties to Russia propaganda activity to appear in an anti-FBI docuseries. He did not respond to questions about this. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Imagine a timeline where this starts taking up all his attention. He starts sitting in on auditions. He casts Cabinet members in shows. His tweets become all-caps rants about backstage drama. Brendan Carr fines stations that don't air the center's TV specials.

Get this shit in the sunlight. projects.propublica.org/elon-musk-do...

"We have to bring religion back. We have to bring it back much stronger. It’s one of the biggest problems that we’ve had over the last fairly long period of time." - DJT at the National Prayer Breakfast Religion has literally not gone anywhere. Also - "over the last fairly long period of time" 🧐

They’ve called armed federal officers to the scene. We aren’t dangerous. We are here to represent our people. To defend public education. This is an authoritarian regime. You cannot block members of Congress from entering the Department of Education.

I snorted out loud

"But Krause, a doughy 40-something who gained global renown this week after The Washington Post identified him as the apparent Fagin figure leading Elon Musk’s merry band of pubescent sovereignty pickpockets illegally accessing Treasury Department payment systems..." 🔥🫡

After J.D. Vance spoke up on behalf of the poor racist "kid" Elon pursues employment decisions in the most gEnIUs way possible! A poll on his propaganda app!!!!

Sometimes you just have to say “fuck you” with a flourish

Murphy: "We need to act like a real opposition party in the middle of a constitutional and democracy crisis. That means we should not be moving forward nominees or legislation in the Senate. Ds should not be giving votes to nominee or legislation in the Senate until Rs get serious about this crisis"

Really good to see. The Democrats are finally waking up.

Murphy: "This is a constitutional crisis that we are in today. Let's call it what it is."

Most insane part is that you or I have as much right to storm into a government agency and seize computers as Musk does. As in: zero. But it’s all being normalized by #complicitmedia. “doge” is bullshit.

I’ve now posted the National YRBS data, 2015-2023, here. I’ll add the state and district data soon. www.datalumos.org/datalumos/pr...

This has been one of the most shocking parts to me. We spent months interviewing people in federal agencies regarding cross agency data sharing (not even external) and the rigidity of the statutes, rules, and understanding, were incredible. Ensuring privacy was paramount.

NEW: @wired.com built a tool to monitor 1,300+ federal .gov websites, revealing that entire sites are going dark as we speak. @telliotter.bsky.social, @dmehro.bsky.social (who built the tool), and @dell.bsky.social report: www.wired.com/story/us-gov...

Thank you to Open Args for covering topics like this, which are so important but most people (even lawyers!) don’t have time to research themselves.

there are simply too many stories and not enough paid journalists to write them all. this is by design.

We'll be there!

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

NBC News is being kicked out of its space in the Pentagon and replaced by OANN.
