I like hot rocks and a cool climate. I run policy for Fervo Energy. These posts don't even represent me.

I can’t speak to projects that aren’t our, not familiar with their specific situation. Mineral rich brines can be hard to work with (compared to benign EGS brines) which could be a cost driver. The CEC/CEQA process also looks like it has extended much longer than anticipated (a few years now?)

The report captures a key point about the scalability of geothermal: we're really good at drilling. In the last 5 years, the number of wells we've drilled in the top 5 shale plays is equivalent to 133GW of geothermal capacity. We can build this stuff at speed and scale.

The problems ERPA sought to address are still holding back American energy production and reliability. We will continue to advocate strongly for common sense solutions to streamline geothermal permitting, and I'm optimistic that we'll make progress next Congress building off EPRA's foundation.

@jameshewett.bsky.social and
@robgramlichdc.bsky.social own the Macro Grid, but I'm trademarking the Mid-Grid™️. Must credit.

There's nuance here. I can see solutions where aggregated new load is connected to a new gen portfolio via merchant wires – neither microgrid nor macrogrid...a "mezzanine" grid? Mid-grid? But that's not BTM and there are a variety of commercial and regulatory hurdles to aligning the pieces.

Important to note how bipartisan these provisions are – similar language is found in the bipartisan Energy Permitting Reform Act from Manchin & Barrasso.

Take the recent Odd Lots episode on uranium (it is well-established I'm an Odd Lots fanboy). It was fascinating to learn about the uranium market, but the discussion of supply and demand glossed over market catalysts. Press releases don't place fuel orders, projects do.

As strong a qualification as any. I’ve been claiming FERC expertise based off the same experience.
