One of the most shocking things I have read for a while: t.co/lg46ijHLDF

Gun registry? No. Autism registry? Yes? Fuck ALL the way off.

You get a lot of centrist YIMBY types going on about planning and "get government red tape out the way and just build build build!" but impossible to look at this graph and draw any conclusion other than "oh, shit, the shortfall is just state housing"

True story this. Went to the funeral yesterday for a guy who played the dame every year in the local panto. The vicar stood in front of the coffin and asked where he was and we all shouted 'he's behind you.' A lovely moment.

🔴Donald Trump’s 'Disappearance' of Abrego Garcia Is the Canary in the Coal Mine for American Freedom The United States is rapidly descending into authoritarianism under the Trump administration, argues Matt Gallagher bylinetimes.com/2025/04/17/d...

The government has published no evidence to suggest that cutting disability benefits will get people back to work. The evidence it has published found that these cuts would plunge hundreds of thousands of people into poverty. I’m joining @trusselluk.bsky.social in calling on the gov’t to rethink

here’s a curse word free version of “look it up” as requested by countless teachers and librarians 🥰😘

One man is standing up for the rule of law in Britain. His reward is to be savagely attacked by right wing think tanks, newspapers & politicians. They understand where the battle against populism is taking place. And they've marshalled their forces accordingly. iandunt.substack.com/p/a-good-man...

This is an outstanding and important piece on a legal-political struggle at the heart of the uK polity. A must-read.

1. Yesterday I wrote a thread about the dire warnings from food professionals on the state of supply chains. Comfortable folk might find it impossible to imagine an end to the current abundance. But we'd better start imagining it fast. THIS thread is about solutions - false ones and sound ones.

Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

This is Utah in case anyone’s wondering how pissed off people are. I have never seen anything like this.

Good grief 🤦🏻

Utterly disgusting. There is absolutely no way any Afghan woman should be returned to the Taliban having sought asylum, but particularly someone who has fought for human rights. It is tantamount to a death sentence. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

📣 Foreboding picture on the International Day for Mine Awareness There is no case for Western exceptihonalism on landmines – the line against these hideous weapons must be held By Natalie Bennett @nataliegreenpeer.bsky.social

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

chef’s kiss

I hate to be the one to say it, but this has been missing from nearly all the commentary– Gang members deserve due process rights as much as anyone else. Disappearing them is as much a crime against humanity as disappearing unaffiliated men.

Quick reminder: Le Pen wasn't found guilty because the French courts hate democracy. She was found guilty because she broke the fucking law. open.substack.com/pub/iandunt/...

Putin comes against Le Pen ruling. Authoritarians hates any possibility of legal restraint on their leadership. Trump will doubtless do the same. Journalists do not have to follow this framing. There is zero reason for them to start a report by questioning whether the ruling is democratic.

No-one wakes up and decides to pay thousands to risk their life crammed into an overcrowded dinghy crossing one of the world's busiest shipping routes for fun. Until Labour starts ensuring there are safer and simpler alternatives to seek asylum in UK everything else is performative. #r4today

What is missing here is the voice of children with SEND & their families. Not providing the support children need is having huge impacts on children including exclusions and often requires relentless advocacy from carers. SEND support must be funded properly. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

MPs to vote on disability benefit cuts without knowing the ‘full impact’ This is ABSOLUTE MADNESS given the governments own impact assessment predicts cuts would drive at least 250,000 people into poverty, including 50,000 children How can MP’s vote for this now?

Americans were obsessed with the Lexington Green myth and the idea that they’d take to the hills muskets in hands if anyone ever dared to tread on their precious freedoms. Instead all it took for them to instantly fold was a grubby real estate swindler posting some vague threats at 2am.

🔴‘I Asked Nigel Farage’s Supporters What They Really Want and the Answers Were Alarming’ My time spent mingling with Reform supporters revealed a lot about where the UK could be heading next, argues David Goff bylinetimes.com/2025/02/20/r...

By almost every economic & financial measure Brexit has been disastrous for the UK - the Office for Budget Responsibility says it will reduce the UK's potential GDP by 4% in the long run by lowering the trade intensity of the economy & its latest report lays bare its catastrophic impact on trade
