To the brave women of Ukraine: Your strength, courage, and resilience inspire the world. You stand as warriors, defenders, and symbols of hope. The future belongs to those who fight for it—stay strong, stay unbreakable.

Why would Mussayev suddenly come out and say this now? bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d...

To whip the European defense industry into shape, Brussels has appointed veteran Lithuanian politician Andrius Kubilius as its first-ever defense commissioner. The Kyiv Independent sat down with Commissioner Kubilius to ask whether the EU is ready to step up in the light of recent shifts in the U.S.

Good morning and Happy Thursday to everyone who agrees with General Milley that Americans do not owe our allegiance to a King, Queen, or a wannabe dictator. We owe our allegiance to the Constitution. Fuck the nonsense trump says about being a king.

Putinization of America

For no particular reason, what the Commonwealth of Virginia thinks about kings.

“Russia used the first round of talks with the US over … Ukraine to demand the withdrawal of Nato forces from the alliance’s eastern flank, triggering concern in Europe that the Trump admin could acquiesce to seal a peace deal, Romania’s govt said” on.ft.com/3Qse1WX

My warmest greetings go out to the wonderful people who built their careers sniffing out “Ukrainian Nazis” under every stone in Ukraine for tasty headlines that fueled Russian war propaganda on this-is-why-Ukraine-must-be-dealt-with, only to get Nazi salutes normalized in their own country.

Attacking a wartime allied leader; expending diplomatic capital for an accused sex trafficker. This is the presidency we are dealing with.

Elon’s busy schedule today is claiming astronauts were left in the ISS for political reasons, getting corrected by an ISS astronaut, throwing a fit where he calls the astronaut a slur, then complaining that we should deorbit the ISS

Roosevelt's advice was to speak softly and carry a big stick. I am worried that President Trump is doing the opposite. He is shouting loudly, and when it comes to helping Ukraine he is carrying a small stick.

“A key finding is that tactical drones are inflicting roughly two-thirds of Russian losses…twice as effective as every other weapon in the Ukr arsenal put together…remarkable…for weapons which did not officially exist in the Ukr mil at start of the war” www.forbes.com/sites/davidh...

Meanwhile, the US cuts all of its democracy promotion and support for independent media

Let’s be honest. Does anyone think that this president would honour Article Five? Presence of US military & nuclear sharing still has value to Europe, but its deterrent value is significantly reduced & falling. This is reckless, dangerous behaviour by the Trump administration.

"To start, Europe must rid itself of the dangerous illusion that it is weak—and stop acting like it." www.economist.com/by-invitatio...

“The USA is now an open enemy of democracy…”

How Vladimir #Putin plans to play Donald Trump Highly recommended. www.economist.com/europe/2025/...

Russia taking Ukraine: Eleven years of war, no success. Russia taking the U.S.: One meeting, done deal.

To be honest, sometimes it's a bit funny to see multiple experts and commentators trying to second-guess Trump's grand strategy and its super-complex double agenda. The more I see, the more sure I am that it's just a generator of random phrases and ad hoc moves and that there's no plan.

For Europe, money is the easy part. The difficult part is committing to fight alongside Ukrainians if they are ever attacked again. That is what we will have to be ready to do, like it or not.

There is a fundamental issue we need to recognise. A serious Euro force in Ukraine needs US enablement, air defence, air cover & ISR. Those things - enablers, air def, air power & intel - are exactly what many in the Trump admin want to shift from Europe to the Indo-Pacific.

To deter is to threaten. Europeans struggle to muster the manpower, kit & will to secure Ukraine, but investing into rapid🇺🇦& Eur production of massive quantities of precision weapons (missiles & esp drones) in UA ctrl that can credibly hold key RU tgts at risk would help deter🇷🇺

This is master negotiating. He really has Putin on the ropes. One more unprompted unilateral concession and Putin will surely crack. www.reuters.com/world/trump-...

what a difference six weeks make

Trump: "One of the first meetings I want to have is with President Xi of China, President Putin of Russia, and I want to say, 'let's cut our military budget in half.' And we can do that."

Laughing Kremlin Insiders Say Trump Has Given Putin Greenlight to Expand the War My latest for @thedailybeast.bsky.social: www.thedailybeast.com/laughing-kre...

A reminder: Vladimir Putin could end the war in Ukraine right now, just by ordering his soldiers to go home. No need for treaties or negotiations.

Plans are rapidly advancing today for Trump to visit Moscow, the first US President to do so since GWB. In return Putin will be given the full honours of a state visit to Washington. A reminder: Putin is wanted for war crimes. Russia has been committing war crimes in Ukraine for years. 1/2

On Hegseth's comments, I would recommend re-reading the detailed briefing I wrote while at Munich a year ago. On whether Europe could defend itself without America, what that would require, and why leadership was as much of a problem as raw military power. www.economist.com/briefing/202...

Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity are unconditional. Our priority must now be strengthening Ukraine and providing robust security guarantees. In any negotiation, Europe must have a central role. Our Weimar+ statement ↓

REPORTER: Do you view Ukraine as an equal member of this peace process? TRUMP: Ummmm ... it's an interesting question. I think they have to make peace. That was not a good war to go into.

A bone-chilling 24 hours for Europe. - Hegseth talks about US not being "primarily focused" on European security - Rules out NATO membership for Ukraine - US negotiates directly with Putin over the heads of Ukraine and Europe - IISS study shows Russia spends more on military than Europe combined

Not easy to find examples of clearly unlawful orders, but this is one. “President Trump declared on Tuesday that the United States should seize control of Gaza and permanently displace the entire Palestinian population of the devastated seaside enclave” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/04/u...

“Trump's proposal on Gaza was his idea and he spent at least two months preparing it. “He made the proposal because he could not find any other new ideas regarding Gaza.” - Axios quoting a US official.
