Americans need to get better at believing Trump when he says what he intends to do. He has repeatedly said he wants to make Canada the 51st state by destroying their economy. Luckily Canadians are listening and not sticken with the same collective denial that Americans are suffering from.

Importantly, they are calling on state and local leaders to take steps to strengthen human rights protections. Even if a national government fails to honor its commitments under these treaties - the human rights framework can still be useful on the local and regional levels.

The whitehouse is claiming that direct individual assistance is not being paused. But they really don't know what they have cut. They have no understanding of how these funding streams work. Many programs are funded in block grants to states to administer. So I wouldn't make any assurances.

Please keep in mind as you ask people if they voted that the many people who are ineligible to vote are under no obligation to disclose that to you. For some, it's a safety issue. Even more so in the coming years unfortunately.
