I was in Canada last week visiting a friend. Her fear of the US destroying their economy was very real. Her husband expects military action that the Canadians will not be able to counter. He's a retired cardiologist and they are way more conservative than I am — hardly crazed reactionaries.

It's hard to comprehend the trouble that the US would find itself in. They will immediately find themselves in conflict with Canada, and their allies, in a trade and guerilla war. I don't think the US public will support the invasion since the war would be on their streets too.

It's not just the threat of violence - it's the insult. All complaints against Canada have 0 merit. Canadian soldiers have fought and died shoulder-to-shoulder with Americans in every American military action since WWI, and to be treated this way desecrates their sacrifice.
