Nonsense

I wonder how many folks are going to end up ruined financially because their infobubble is reassuring them that the markets will be skyrocketing and prices dropping Any Day Now. Not that those of us in contact with reality will be MUCH better off.

Well, JPMorgan’s chief economist Bruce Kasman certainly sounds cheery.

Ahem

It’s intentional

Unreal. Such a self inflicted wound. A generational mistake

Almost 30 years ago, in "Life as We Know It," I described Gingrich Republicans as people who would kick the crutches out from under Tiny Tim. Jack Fowler of the National Review, a high school classmate of mine, wrote to me to object. And now here we are.

Austerity is next…

I tried to figure out what exactly the new China tariff was last night. The White House wasn’t sure, and then told me it was a “pointless aside” to write about that. (It’s 79%)

Self inflicted

Don’t put them on. They lie to you. Not a hard decision.

I get a lot of economic research and I really can't find any defense of Trump on trade. Some are just cautious against the hope things get dialed back, one report this a.m. was like hey, this is just how Trump rolls. But no credible support for tariffs this extreme.

Important article, important thread from @abenewman.bsky.social & @himself.bsky.social

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

Can’t. Because it doesn’t

Also, the Secretary of Commerce doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

It’s worse.

Gosh if only Congress had thought of this before…

History. Wrong side of.

Harris Faulkner's Fox News show has been on for 20 minutes now. She has not mentioned tariffs or stocks once and a stock ticker isn't being displayed. Strong state media vibes.

Thread: How deep is Fox News burying the stock market tumble after Trump's tariffs? Here's the lead story 1/

A few things to note about the depreciation of the US dollar index in response to the US tariff announcement It's consistent with what has been a pronounced market reassessment of US growth and, with that, falling US yields and expectations of larger Federal Reserve rate cuts (as well as lower net..

I call this The DOGE Paradox.

No Economic shock, same

As judges take a closer look at how DOGE is operating, and what authority it exercises across the federal bureaucracy, among the many questions they’re asking is whether DOGE is actually a government agency itself. The answer to that question could have major ramifications: cnn.it/42oreXt

JFC. You don’t need a damn expert to tell you this.

They need to “fall in line” less and leak more. Come on. Learn how to do it securely, and then do it.

Just in NIH grants, It looks like beautiful Iowa City, home of the U of Iowa, will lose $71m in funding. That's almost $1k per resident. And that's before all the other cuts to SSA, FDA, etc. Anyone in Iowa City that can offer more insight? scienceimpacts.org H/T to Prathima !

One consequence of tolerating pseudoscience is that people die when its legitimatization becomes baked into our culture, health care systems, and institutions.

Trump never had any plan to bring down grocery prices and help working families.

@inequalitymedia.bsky.social , I’m pretty sure this translates into hurting the most amount of people and three large companies that produce more cars than the one company that has the least amount of workers who will benefit, and it produces the least number of cars🤔 www.cnbc.com/2025/03/27/t...
