You should care about disability justice because it’s the right thing to do. There’s no justice without inclusion. If that doesn’t convince you, remember that everyone is only temporarily abled. If you live long enough, you’ll become disabled. It can happen in an instant & no one is the exception.

I think my hot take is that Long Covid will impact society far more significantly than polio ever did and polio was leaving kids unable to walk. It's so much easier to ignore post viral conditions like Long Covid where there is usually no visible indicator of disability.

I used to have a pay as you go electric meter & it worked out as a lot more than the cost of paying monthly; with the added expense of food going off if it ran out during the night and the fridge/freezer turned off. PAYG meters are what the supplier installs if you're struggling to pay your bills.

When lockdowns started, people said: “this is what your life is like all the time? I had no idea!” They seemed to understand how hard it is to be disabled & housebound. I found support & empathy. Then they got bored. Wanted their “normal” back. Support vanished & disabled people were left behind.
