Didn't do much for genealogy today. Just tried to work on more of the great file rearrange. #digitalhousekeeping #genealogy

Posting a little earlier than usual on my #genealogyproject because I just discovered how badly my #lazygenealogy has hamstrung me. More than half of my proof on who one of my paternal 2nd great grandfathers is, well that's on my computer. At home. Currently inaccessible. #genealogyfail #genealogy

Today's #genealogy task was more housekeeping. I've let the files get a bit out of control so there's a good bit of that to do. #fileorganizing #familytree

Here we go again! One week later to the day, and the winds are picking up again and threatening to spread fires...but this time there's already massive acreage ablaze! Stressful! #LAFires laist.com/news/climate...

Historian bestie is getting ready for the American 250th next yea. My task today was to start digging at records to make sure we have an accounting of all Revolutionary War veterans buried in Otisco cemeteries. #genealogy #revolutionarywar #researchgoals

Spending the day creating a timeline analysis for my bestie's brick wall ancestor. I have fewer gaps than I thought I did, which is good, but the gaps I do have are well, annoyingly large. I literally can't find him for 37 years yet. But I will. #genealogy #brickwallbusting

So today was another #genealogy housekeeping day. Working on marking the branches I'm not planning on researching and making sure I have at least birth and death dates for folks. #familyhistory #ancestry

Meta now allows women to be called ‘property’ and LGBTQ+ folks labeled ‘mentally ill.’ Watching people justify staying on Meta —‘It’s just where everyone is!’—is wild. At what point do convenience and connection outweigh complicity in a system harming the most vulnerable? Asking for humanity.

Today was more tagging branches so nothing noteworthy and no birthdays on direct lines. So here's an article that caught my eye from Jan 10, 1893; The Evening Herald; Syracuse, NY. #genealogy #researchgems

So today's #genealogy task is cleaning. I'm going through my personal tree on Ancestry and tagging the branches I'm not actively researching, clearing out the hints on there I won't be hunting, and just doing general housekeeping. It feels like a good thing done. #trimmingthefamilytree #familytree

Meet the destroyer HMS Glowworm. In April 1940 she was forced to fight the German Heavy Cruiser Admiral Hipper, ten times her size, and Hipper's destroyer escorts. Her extraordinary last stand earned her captain the first Victoria Cross of WW2. In part because THE GERMANS nominated him for one /1 🧵

This is the other one that amused the heck out of me. Considering one of the major employers in the area is a casino? Oh how times have changed. This is from the Jan 8 1900 Syracuse NY Post-Standard #genealogy #genealogyresearch #historicalresearch

One of the joys of genealogy research is the weird newspaper articles you find. I present today's oddity from a Jan 9, 1900 newspaper referencing a decree made on Jan 8, 1900 in D.C. The Post-Standard (Syracuse, NY) - newspaper dot com. #genealogy #historyisfun #newspaper #1900swereweird

Today I'm going to do something a little different. Looking at the list of birthdays from my tree, today is my Great Aunt Marjorie's birthday. I actually have a vague memory of her. She born in 1911 and was married to my grandmother's younger half brother. She passed in 1984. #genealogy #familytree

Today's genealogy task: fleshing out my paternal 3rd great-grandparents. After some digging on Fulton History, I have James King's obituary (that would be ggg-grandpa) and mention of his wife Julia passing. I also found the NYS death index listings for both of them!! #genealogy #proof

CARTOONS OF THE DAY 🫤 (Cartoonists are rallying around @anntelnaes.bsky.social as she leaves the @washingtonpost.com )

Spent time today essentially doing a "one name study" of sorts on all men in the 1940 US Federal Census with a name that was even close to our man of mystery. I have one very good contender and two rule outs left out of 104 possible. #genealogy #ancestorhunting #census

Day four of working on the skills. Dug into newspapers, focusing mostly on good old dependable FultonHistory.com. Love that site. Found several obits for relevant family members that may or may not have clarified anything. But that's how it goes. #genealogy #familypuzzles

On with the tasks. Didn't get much done today research wise but did get some files organized so I'm counting that as a win. #genealogy

Continuing my genealogy goals, today I'm watching webinars on crafting solid research plans using the Genealogical Proof Standard and actually taking advantage of my membership to Legacy Family Tree Webinars. 😁 #genealogy #researchplans #familytree

So for 2025, one of my goals is to tighten up my genealogy skills. I've been doing for 80% of my life. But I've been doing lazy, scattershot genealogy. Today starts my attempt to fix that. And today's task for that? Vetting research logs to see which one suits my galaxy brain research style.

Surround yourself with the kind of people who support their local library, bakery, bookstore, and café.

Note to Hollywood for the upcoming awards season,,, Some of us are on a sobriety journey and mocktails or non-alcoholic beer options make a big difference 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

So I've been doing family history research for most of my life and am pretty good at it. I was thinking of posting some basic "getting started" tips & tricks, and then maybe diving deeper into other topics. Untangling census records comes to mind as a potential. Anyone interested?

Truth.

Vasectomy appointments are up 1200%. IUDs 760%. Birth control consults 350%. Plan B and prevention tool sales? Likely soaring. Healthcare workers have a rough 60 days ahead. Be kind. They’re carrying immense weight.
