If that computer were to suddenly eat itself, all that work, literal decades, would be gone like so much smoke. So new task for this weekend. Make and execute an organizational plan followed by a backup plan. Reset the mess. Here's to a #genealogywin #genealogy #nomorelazygenealogy

I haven't even begun to touch the desktop files yet. This is all in Ancestry at the moment because I've let that beast get WAY out of hand. I need to start downloading (and properly naming!) media asap.

Live in the stream of consciousness that is the feed? That's what I'm trying at it seems to be working so far.

And after a few minutes of digging further, the only logical possibility was the one that was a "good contender". So, I now have my bestie's elusive grandfather tracked to 1940. He's listed as married so that lends credence to the family story of wife prior to her grandmother. #genealogy #family

You're welcome! Please feel free to ask away. While there are some differences between UK and US records, the basis tends to be very similar so I'm happy to help where I can.

I was poking around on FamilySearch for some of my stuff and did see that they do have a solid collection of UK census records, and their research wiki is a solidly useful tool for anyone doing family research: www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Main...

Decent chance that parish records will be invaluable the further back you go. Oh, and from a "don't make my mistakes", keep a research log. I've not done so consistently and I regret it.

Principles should translate. In your shoes I'd start with the most recent lot and work my way backwards, sticking to locally available records. I need to double check UK repositories but there might be better and/or free options for you.

Depends on where you need to search. You might want to try looking on familysearch.org. It's free and run by the LDS. Family history is a huge part of their belief system and they have one of the largest archives in the United States.
For census records, what area are you looking in?

Welp, you're the only one who has replied so far 😂 So hit me with the first question off the top of your head or maybe your most annoying brick wall?
