the hills have eyes is also fantastic. the title makes you think you’re in for a horror level (it’s even the title of a horror film) but instead the world of the film and the titular hills are mysterious in a ethereal and awe-inspiring way. great subversion, not cutely ironic but enlightening

congregation is such a fantastically ambiguous name for that level. what does the level have to do with religion? does the congregation have a cult? is that why the level is so steeped in tension? how would the adversarial cult play into the level? it’s confusing and creepy (a good thing here)

i think the style of the gameplay itself (all 1x speed cube timings) has to do with making the level 60hz friendly relative to other levels of similar difficulty on high refresh rate (sort of similar to how black blizzard is a popular extreme among 60hz players)

agreed on the last bit to an extent but it’s more about the raw difficulty of the gameplay not being as impossible as something like acheron mostly due to the length. kind of like comparing something like light travel to something like retention (they’re around the same difficulty)
