I don't have Netflix so can't watch it. But I object on principle to anyone making an Edinburgh based detective show that isn't Tony McLean.

The best science fiction isn't about future tech though. It's about way of shining a light on current society and attitudes, looking at them through a lens of 'other'. The likes of Altman and Musk don't get that. They are incapable of such self-reflection and see only shiny spaceships.

It's the same when you see the likes of Facebook and Apple being fined billions. They make that back in a few days or weeks, probably write it off against tax. Send a few directors to jail like Iceland did with its bankers. They'll learn then!

Visuals will trump reality every time with film - that's the medium after all. It made a lovely shot in Hinterland with the car coming down the mountain road, but if it got there from Aber it was very lost!

Yup. A fine is just a cost of doing business. Nothing will change until people start getting locked up.

I recall something similar when Hinterland came out, as they'd filmed a lot of it where I used to live. You can't get to Devil's Bridge from Aberystwyth on that road!

The installer for our borehole water pump meter never turned up. No communication to say he wasn't coming, no apology and I had to book a new appointment. Still, at least he turned up expecting 3 phase, unlike the guy who came to the house...

Ah, the joy of smart meter installations. Best of luck.

Mostly I'm just appalled at how long ago they were made! What do you mean I'm not fifteen any more?!

Oh, it is absolutely called Underpants, not Underpass. My old vinyl copy of Metamatic is very scratchy now. Might have to buy the digital version as it sounds so much better.

They seem to have fundamentally missed the point of science fiction though. They're not even convincing nerds!

"BlueSky is dying"
"Gen A I is inevitable"
"The regime cannot be stopped"
You don't typically need to repeat something if it's true; you repeat it when you're selling something, whether that's a product or a belief.

The insane people also have insane amounts of money and can employ the most persuasive talkers. It doesn't take much to bamboozle our politicians, sadly. I wish more interviewers would ask them exactly how AI is going to create jobs when it's actually designed to do the opposite.

That's...quite striking! Definitely what I would call a dust collector. I don't suppose the Antiques Roadshow is anywhere near you soon? They're coming to Cupar, apparently.

I know as adults we tend to forget a lot of what it meant to be a child, but it's astonishing how much the C-suite forgets what it was like to be an intern.

We had a yellow Labrador who loved the vacuum. He'd roll on his back and present his tummy to t.

It all feels a bit overwhelming doesn't it. So much anger and hate and pain in the world right now. I have no answers, but I'm not giving up either.

I have occasionally had deliveries where they've put in a little bag of Haribo or a tiny chocolate bar, but it's so hard wired into my brain not to accept sweets from strangers I have to throw them away!

It is a wonderful place. I'm so frustrated not to be @cymerafestival.co.uk again this year. It clashes with the coos calving. Such bad timing!
