Yeah, it felt like it swapped out the source of threat very quickly from the interesting social dynamics of the society to *crazy magic bad* in too much of a hurry. Like 2 seasons smashed into one or something.

Actually, a revision. Having had a look at his portfolio I do really like some of Rian's work.

If I were choosing I'd take JJ Abrams middle of the road reboot because I enjoy that sort of thing, but, much as I do not much care for his work, I am confident that a full Rian Johnson trilogy would have been better than what we got.

Without a doubt, the people who are really to blame here are whichever execs decided that instead of a coherent trilogy in one directors style they would have a director v director grudge match live in the cinema. Truly a staggering bit of incompetence.

The one in Those About to Die was so bad. Just, didn't work at all. The idea they had was cool but it didn't come out.
