My partner likes to joke that subtlety doesn’t exist in Monogatari lol. I like both shows, I just wish this movie had hit for me the same way the show did; I definitely waited too long after it aired to watch this 😅

Ngl, I found this kind of disappointing. Someone once pointed out to me that Sakuta & Mai have a more bland version of the chemistry Araragi & Senjougahara have in Monogatari, and I can't unsee it 💀

As a former theatre girlie, I was VERY concerned about this adaptation lol. They butchered the pacing of Defying Gravity, but on the whole, I was impressed! The costumes and wig work alone were worth a second watch.

I have soooooo much personal beef with SJM for her writing style and the general lack of editing in this series, but I will hand it to her: she knows how to create a larger plot structure. I liked this a LOT more than the first one.

Last year I decided to dive back into my childhood fixation on anything paleobiology. This has definitely been one of the easiest so far for me to parse as someone with no formal background in the field. Mark Witton’s writing style manages to be so entertaining even with the density of information!
