You write code under NDA, I write code under MDMA. We are not the same.

Dear President Von Der Leyen, My name is Joey, I am 26 year old American. My people and my trading bloc yearn for freedom. Instead we get 25% tariffs on cars and avocados. Please send Eurofighter Typhoon multirole fighter jet

Had to have a talk with HR because I kept googling "big naturals" on my work laptop. They wouldn't believe that I was just implementing a natural number datatype 😔

One of my earlier bad keyboards (June 2023), the ShiftKeyBoard! It's got nine buttons, and an 8-way gear shifter. You simply shift into different gears to select which sub-keyboard to use. Surprisingly easy to use, in fact.

I think that the tweet genre of “this person (who might be a bot) had a bizarre opinion that made me think less of humanity and so the right thing by to do is screenshot it and show it to the largest number of people” is silly.

I’ve gone down a rabbit hole with Philosophy Tube research: I started with “Why are American cities on grids?” and now I’m deep into historical theories on whether Thomas Jefferson was autistic

Professor Alexis Jay, who led a 7-year review of sexual abuse which reported in 2022, says starting a new inquiry would delay any implementation of her own recommendations:

Funny thing I learned reading today: As a student at Cambridge, Charles Babbage pushed for switching from Newton's dot notation for Calculus, to Leibniz's dy/dx notation. He referred to this as D-ism.

The Massacre of the Innocents, which I do not support, was an understandable effort by Herod, who I also do not support, to prevent the M$DNC hypocrite Jesus from spreading the gospel of shitlibocracy. by Glenn Greenwald

For ten years now, I've been writing letters from Santa to my young relatives. To mark this decade, I wanted to include something really special, and after a lot of research into his workshop’s size, location and layout, I'm confident that this checks out. Hope they like it!

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume? Assyriologist: Du[ring] grad sch[ool] I [took?] a position ... [13 lines illegible] ... now.

as an ultrafinitist, i think it's nonsense when people try to talk about numbers larger than the number of electrons in the universe. that's why i don't believe in 2

I've had a long-running thread on twitter on the real migration crisis (not enough migrants). Will start posting here... but for the earlier 1,000-plus examples, see here: x.com/charlesjkenn...

"Product of the 80s" my dude - precision please - cross, dot or hadamard? Cross: you only work in a very specific dimension, and everyone gets your sign wrong. Dot: simple, foundational, answers all questions. But also disappointingly common. Hadamard: pretentious name for something very obvious.

why won't replicators make butt plugs

What was left in Turing's notebooks after his tragic death? Great insights into the maths of morphogenesis that were never published, including the Swift-Hohenberg model that was rediscovered decades later. people.bath.ac.uk/jhpd20/publi...

Pair programming is heteronormative and needlessly difficult for neurodivergent people. Polycule programming is the way to go

WIRED has tracked thousands of US military & intel personnel coming & going from classified sites, incl. NSA hubs & nuclear vaults. We know where they sleep, what they eat, and which brothels they visit. It's an ocean of blackmail & national secrets within reach of every spy agency in the world.

imagine me becoming progressively more and more annoyed as I researched this

Amazingly enough, the first attempt to simulate galaxy interactions (1941) predated computers & used light bulbs! The trick is that the gravitational force and electromagnetic force (for light) both vary as 1/distance^2; Erik Holmberg realized this meant he could use light to simulate galaxies. 🧪

So I've been reading Alan Turing's famous 1936 paper where he gives a solution of the entscheidungsproblem while basically proposing the modern idea of a computer. What I hadn't realized is how deeply he'd worked out the concept.
