Nearly six months out from launch, I finally finished Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This is a textbook mixed bag. From a technical and design standpoint, and as a game that you play, The Veilguard is rock solid. No complaints. But these kinds of story heavy RPGs live or die by their writing, and...

If it wasn't obvious from my last post, I love this game. Some of the most refined Soulslike combat yet, combined with a wonderful weapon customization system, wrapped up in a fresh, gothic, and tragic reimagining of the classic Pinocchio story. Krat feels like a real place. Awesome score too.

This is a shockingly somber and emotional look at Overture and its story. Dear God, that music. The Legendary Stalker. Her loss and regret. Romeo and Carlo. The real Alidoro. His betrayal and murder. Th beginning of the Puppet Frenzy and the fall of Krat. Who knew the Pinocchio game could do this? 😢

It's only February and we may well have GOTY already. KCD II is a monumental triumph for Warhorse Studio. I haven't been this sucked into a game and its world in some time. Medieval historical fiction isn't usually my go to genre of choice, but Warhorse have weaved such a compelling tale here...

Homophobes are mad because possibly the best game of 2025 has an optional gay romance subplot. Even though he's been written as the straightest man alive, Hans falling for his best friend is an incredibly wholesome moment of bisexual awakening. Kingdom Come Deliverance II has been a triumph so far.

Unexpectedly bad, because Nixxes has had an excellent track record up to this point. But crashes, bugs, and visual anomalies absolutely plague this release. Clearly needed more time in the oven, but it's too late to get a refund since I've played more than two hours.

Hot take? The Final Fantasy VII Remake is the single worst game I've played in awhile. Great story and presentation that suffers from tons of padding and filler that kills momentum and urgency. Aggravating combat that has you spamming health potions thanks to unavoidable damage. Bigger isn't better.

This is going straight to the top of my most anticipated of 2025 list. Reuniting Park Chan-wook and Lee Byung-hun for a biopic about me? I'm beyond flattered.

Don't believe the bullshit from TikTok. This whole thing was a calculated PR stunt for Donald Trump. It was his idea to ban it in the first place, now he gets to swoop in and act like some kind of hero for saving it. Right on the eve of him retaking office.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised to learn Carrie Underwood, a devoutly religious country singer from Oklahoma, is a Trump fan, but goddamn that's disappointing. I bought some of her early CDs. Of course a so called Christian who literally did a song called Love Wins is a fucking hypocrite. Fuck her.

A notorious case of extreme French cinema, a moving meditation on aging and mortality, an acclaimed Korean auteur's debut that inspired a bonkers remake a few years later, and the same director's 2010 feature that's possible the greatest revenge thriller ever put to film. Kudos to Umbrella in 🇦🇺.

David Lynch's hork has had auch a large effect on me ever since I was first introduced to it. Such an incredible artist. Please quit smoking if you can.

David Lynch always made stuff that was so full of heart and a love for people. I didn’t always “get it,” but I don’t think he wanted us to always feel that. He wanted us to think and to make our own judgments. RIP to an art visionary.

This one really hurts. One of cinema's great visionaries and weirdos. There's a void in the world now.

Oof. Supremely stylish and entertaining but also unintentionally hilarious, a bit sleazy, and pretty wildly transphobic. So much weird dialogue and performances. Why does this have a Criterion release? ⭐⭐

Fucking obsessed with this little fur ball

Goddamn that's a handsome woman

Spectacularly shot, pretty moving man vs beast period drama about a grizzled hunter fated into a confrontation with a massive Korean tiger. Choi Min-sik is goated. Haunting vocal-heavy score is powerful. A tad too long and a bit melodramatic. Fake looking CG everywhere but I didn't mind. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I simply cannot picture Americans ever doing this. We are far too selfish and disrespectful to pay tribute to the dead instead of shooting off guns and fireworks outside my window at midnight.

No. Williams Goldsmith Horner Herrmann Steiner Zimmer himself said John Powell is a better composer than he is. Bear McCreary and Michael Giacchino are composing circles around Zimmer. I will not be opening the floor to debate at this time.

Black Christmas is a holiday staple in my home, and one of my very favorite horror films. This is a blow.

Headed your way @gwenlovesmovies.bsky.social. Doing my part to help the poor.

Just in from Umbrella Entertainment, Ti West's HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, and a pair of time loop twisters, Christopher Smith's nautical horror TRIANGLE, and Nacho Vigalondo's TIMECRIMES.

Recently took a peek at Twitter and the disinformation is getting substantially more dangerous. Someone could get killed. The tactics of constantly repeating outright lies, targeting specific people, repurposing years-old footage and presenting them as new is getting to another level. It’s scary.

I bought 10 out of 12 of these. Absolutely killer year!

Absolutely cracking period spy thriller set in Japan-occupied Korea. Terrific performances all around and an engrossing, if unoriginal, story. 4.5 stars.

I wish MINARI did more for me. It's got all the ingredients. Great performances, cinematography, score, and as a film about the hope, promise, and struggle of the then viable American dream, I can see how this hit like a ton of bricks for some. Left me a little cold sadly. Still gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Has South Korea ever made a bad movie? Seriously.

Top 3 release of the year. SS went well above and beyond with a new reconstruction of the film from original elements, a monster 2.5 hour documentary, a second film's worth of deleted scenes, and a hefty hardback book. Truly a holy Grail for Blair Witch fans. First time seeing it, and it holds up!

Not going to be using BlueSky for business reasons as I just want a better Twitter like everyone else, but I'll make this one and done post in case I am able to help anyone.
