Basically: I don’t think people understand that 36 hours from now it’s possible that America will have a formalized system for abducting enemies of the regime and stashing them in foreign gulags, indefinitely. www.thebulwark.com/p/bukele-abr...

BREAKING: Days before she was detained by ICE, the State Department had determined Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk did NOT engage in antisemitic or terrorist activities. Rubio revoked her visa anyhow. Gift article: wapo.st/4j8d5Uh

The Trump administration pays El Salvador President Nayib Bukele's government $6 million to house prisoners it sends to CECOT. That’s the prison where Kilmar Abrego Garcia is currently being held. If the US controls the purse strings, then don’t pay El Salvador until Abrego Garcia comes home.

"I didn't vote for this. Nobody could have seen it coming."

Afghan women in the U.S. are going to be deported back into the arms of the Taliban. This is monstrous. www.npr.org/2025/04/11/g...

When DOJ filed its response to Judge Xinis around 12:15 pm today, it said: “Plaintiff is in the custody of a foreign sovereign.” Drew Ensign’s name was on the brief. An hour later, at the hearing, Ensign told the judge that he didn’t have info on Garcia’s whereabouts and custodial status. ???

WELCOME TO THE HALL OF SHAME MIKE JOHNSON Congressman Mike Johnson of Louisiana voted to cut Medicaid.

BREAKING: An immigration court determined our client Mahmoud Khalil to be removable from the U.S. based solely on his political speech. The fight isn't over — we'll keep fighting for Mahmoud's freedom and all of our First Amendment rights in federal court.

we are living in fascism right now

JENA, La. (AP) — Immigration judge rules that Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil can be deported.

Tech bros are currently divvying up and making big plans to colonize Greenland. www.reuters.com/world/europe...

The number of people who respond to this with “filibusters do nothing” or “they have to vote no!” makes me think that way too many people do not understand current Senate rules.

Wow. This is from a Trump II State Dept appointee, Tibor Nagy, unloading on the DOGE shitshow as a "stage production which combined elements of a tragicomedy with the Twilight Zone." Again, this is a Trump guy talking. www.lubbockonline.com/story/opinio...

The White House. The actual White House. This is the attitude of every abuser, who is now fearful of the consequences of their abuse.

Cannot stress enough how life-changing it has been for some of my international students to experience education where free inquiry includes the right to criticize the institution or host country. It changes those from different contexts, and they take new ideas about free expression back with them.

Put aside what you think about the NEH. If Congress wants to debate and do this, it has the authority. Neither the President nor his unconfirmed appointee have any authority to do it by their own dictat.

NEW: Entire scientific fields have been wiped out by the nearly 800 grants cancelled at NIH, finds a @nature.com analysis of the unprecedented cuts. About half of all 2024 NIH projects related to LGBT+ health or vaccine hesitancy — gone. See the other topics and US states hardest hit here:

The U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a major voter suppression measure that, if it became law, could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters and badly undermine U.S. democracy. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The House just passed its budget resolution, so reconciliation is now officially underway. This is their bill to destroy Medicaid and SNAP while cutting taxes disproportionately for the rich. THIS IS VERY REAL and can be enacted even if all Ds vote no. Thread on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT.

International students across the country are losing their visas with no explanation and being taken off the street by officers as part of the Trump administration’s larger immigration crackdown, attorneys and experts say, with immigrants of all statuses being scrutinized. nbcnews.to/4j4LX8T

Like millions of New Yorkers, I want to put down roots in this city. Families like mine can't afford to buy a home in the neighborhoods we grew up in. The solution to $1,000,000 home prices? I’ll deliver 1,000,000 homes in NYC. My plan: zellnor.nyc/rebuild-nyc

FYI, BREAKING: House Rs have put language into the rule on the Budget Resolution to block the House from being forced to vote on legislation revoking theTrump Tariffs. So a vote for this rule today is a vote in favor of the Trump Tariffs. I gather the vote is now scheduled in the 3:30-4:30 hour.

This is big: House Republicans tucked language into the budget res “rule” that bans the House from voting to terminate Trump’s emergency declaration used to impose tariffs. TL;DR lawmakers who vote for this are officially giving up their power to revoke his tariffs until October.

Are you a woman who changed your name when you got married? Congress is considering a bill that could make it much harder for you to vote. Call your rep—this is not a drill. indivisible.org/resource/cal...

"If the state can kidnap people from their homes and send them to a rights-free zone for the indefinite future, and the Court charged with defending the Constitution cannot manage anything more than a shrug of its shoulders, it might as well shut down for good."

This seems a bit dystopian: azmirror.com/2025/04/08/i...

The state of Canada’s “universal healthcare” after decades of neo-liberal gov’t: My 90-yr old mum’s private doctor, which she needs due to the doctor shortage in our collapsing public system, is upping his annual fee by $600. Now totalling $3,600. She pays her taxes. She’s already PAID for care.
