This feels so true, apart from the bit about bananas. After all, bananas smell of rotting meat. But the second draft. Always!

Which producer said? "It's 2025, let's see if we can get David Walliams. He'll be a great booking."

Last time I cooked I was able to wash the ingredients before preparing them.

The 'Dorothy' story at the end is well worth reading to!

Fridges just need one dial, so you can decide quite how cold they get. No other user interface is needed. Smart fridge? Dumb buyer.

But do cats like great baking?

That is a deeply dystopian worldview.

When I read (or listen to) a novel, I think what the author's intentions were. What did they mean. Why did they choose those words. LLMs just use statistics to guess and that's not satisfying if you want something deeper than the ingredients label on a tin of food.

I've turned off read receipts on every app that's implemented them since forever. Read receipts are incredibly creepy. I hope I'm not in a minority here.

You're better off with a hood or a hat. I've never used an umbrella that worked as well as either of those. Umbrellas are just bad at their primary function.

I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Thank you!

Looking forward to it. I wonder if you'll be going as far as 1981 and the Fares Fair policy. A great idea. Probably a fascinating story I'm only partially aware of.

It's a shame that the web designers aren't as good as the writers.

Are they delicious?

Don't they still give you a pint of Guinness and a chocolate biscuit before they send you out after giving blood? When I (summer job) worked for the blood transfusion service they wouldn't let people leave dehydrated.

I'd never listened to it as I don't care about cars. Turns out I was missing something. Great analysis. Thanks!

Tom Robinson disagrees. He wishes he had a grey Cortina.

It's relatively normal to have a cover charge for bread etc... Going to a restaurant is a treat. People don't expect it to be free.

On jets? I sat next to a couple whose baby was literally put in a cardboard box labelled TWA once (yes, a long time ago). I hope they're better than cardboard boxes now.

In contrast, look how much nicer websites are when read in lynx or another text web browser. #accessibility

One of the best things the RIPE NCC has done in recent years is get people talking about Atlas on the Forum. It's a good place to find who needs credits for research.

I once wrote a message to a man called Jan. But I called him January. It still burns.

I can't picture anything in my had and I do fine, thank you very much. I don't care what things look like. I care how the characters react to them etc...

Great descriptions don't need to focus on what things look like: “A good forehead, a determined chin, a figure which could look quite voluptuous if it was allowed to do so, a hard mouth, an acquisitive mouth.” Agatha Christie in The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side. People love her writing!

In a previous job, we sponsored a tourist visa for a volunteer to attend a conference. They had to get a visa to visit one country, so they could visit the embassy of the country hosting the conference. So complex. So expensive.

I am glad I have previously seen films showing how much turbulance 747 wings can cope with. If I hadn't, I'd have been quite scared.

I wonder how cafe owners and staff decide if and when to tell someone they have to buy more coffee or move along. It must be a challenge when someone's doing a Zoom call.

Why can't frozen vegetables come in cardboard boxes instead of plastic bags? Recycling cardboard is so much easier.

Just started listening to the audiobook (only 20 mins in) but there's already a little gem not in the printed version. I love listening anyway but really enjoy when authors take advantage of the form like this. Thanks!

I don't know if they had advertising. If they did, I wonder what they'd advertise. That could be fun!

I had a left handed teacher at school. He'd been beaten as a child for writing with his left hand. He could only write with his right hand but he shook violently when doing so. I expect he was still dealing with repressed childhood trauma as a man in his mid-50s.
