What a coincidence!

Thanks to VIU / SSHRC funds, we are following up on our 2019 study on the field schools. How often do we get a chance to check in with former students in this rich way, 5 years into their careers? We feel very lucky. A snapshot of our initial study: canadianteachermagazine.com/2021/04/20/1...

Our faculty growth has indeed outstripped our building, so the need for horse hours could help us advocate for both more office space and a new outdoor classroom / paddock. Thank you.

Hmmm… I share an office with 3 colleagues. How would this work for us? Can we share one office horse? Not sure we have the filing cabinet space for feed for 4 of them.

I have thoughts! I also have dinner guests arriving soon, so I will write back tomorrow. I will just say that you can write rubrics that help capture what standards look like for each criteria you are assessing, while still allowing your professional judgment

What an amazing memory! My memory is very different. I was on my way to a conference in Philadelphia and stopped overnight in NYC just to see them play Brooklyn Steel. Even alone, a top 5 in lifetime show. When they closed with this song, “where are your friends tonight?” - mine were at home in BC.

You still have one posted.

How amazing that your former student reached out to let you know. If I know anything about the research on “transfer” I suspect many more of the students who seem less interested now will still carry something from their learning with you forward. I recently had two thank you emails 25 years later!

I am coming to the early show with a couple of friends. Will keep an eye out for you! Would be good to say hello.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for this, Melissa. I have my Ss curate a collection of learning resources that are aligned with our provincial curriculum, including the Canadian version of Facing History. The resources bolster their confidence to do important work. They report more worry re: responding to current issues.

And, if getting rid of one allows us to adopt another, we should promote the usage of “Elongate” that you trial-ballooned yesterday.

Thanks - I need to remember to keep checking that feed.

As a Canadian teacher-educator, I am both concerned and curious re: how U.S. teachers are navigating classroom learning around your president's first actions in office. For example, I see some great daily lessons from @pbsnewsclassroom.bsky.social and wonder if teachers feel comfortable using them.

Oh I hope you manage to avoid it. Get some good sleep.

I was coming on here to say Alt-J's An Awesome Wave, so I was amazed to see them on your list too! Wonder why the lyrics don't distract me.

I closed my X account in the fall, after largely staying off it for a year. I went back and curated a handful of screenshots of favourite exchanges there in case I ever wanted to look back. No regrets now being only on Bluesky. The people you want to follow are either here already or will be soon.

This is the best! I'm glad you studied history instead. There are enough engineers, and only one of you.

This week my Socials methods students and I are looking at research and resources they can use to support students in navigating online information. We are reading this article on Critical Ignoring: theconversation.com/when-critica... 4/...

Maybe this post is ok and accurate. But I shouldn't have to go down rabbit holes to verify. We should make habit of hitting the brakes before sharing posts that have stats that are hard to verify. 3/....

Beyond "it feels accurate" it's challenging to quickly verify the stats because there is no link to follow and no attribution, so you can't quickly look up the original source and decide if it's reputable. A google reverse image search = more social media posts. Source cited is incomplete. 2/....
