I know many people are tuning out of spaceflight because of Elon Musk, however instead of turning away entirely, I encourage you to look beyond SpaceX at the rest of a truly incredible industry. So much of what is done here benefits everyone, and I hope you look to that instead of look away.

This advice to students from Columbia Journalism Dean Jelani Cobb. We are truly entering a very dark age www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/n...

The purge of the disloyal has begun at NASA I thought my predictions for NASA under trump would take a year to multiple years to play out and they are speed running its doom. Janet refuses to stand up for civil workers doing good work and research.

Leadership at NASA is rolling over and letting the agency get gutted. Janet Petro's "Embrace The Challenge" is a massively tone deaf statement to those who have dedicated their lives to studying the universe, only to be let go under the guise of "efficiency"

The nominated NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman does not appear positioned to fight for the agency. "People shouldn't waste heartbeats on rumor and speculation." followed just 2 days later by the exact rumors coming to fruition with the agency not even trying to fight back.

Today started out as a promising day for space but ended up like Groundhog Day. SpaceX did catch the booster for the 3rd time, but lost Starship at nearly the same point in the trajectory as last time. And the IM Athena moon lander touched down softly but likely tipped over, similar to last time.

The NYT has an interesting story today about how Elon Musk has been planning his "takeover of the federal bureaucracy" since 2023. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/28/u...

F9/IM-2: Data packets are now coming in; not yet clear what caused the delay making contact, but Athena is sending data while controllers double check the comms configuration

I think it’s not helpful to repeat claims that the administration is working on eliminating “DEIA” as though it’s some kind of corporate strategy; just say explicitly that they’re trying to eliminate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and explain how.

For all who love space exploration like I do, we need to admit: @elonmusk has revealed himself to be an unstable, malign extremist. He is not on the side of freedom or democracy, he is "all-in" for authoritarianism. 100% not compatible with the peaceful exploration of space.

“Sorry I can’t talk, I’m in the middle of breaking news” is apparently the tag line of 2025

Just a reminder: #SpaceX is nothing more than a launch services provider, FULL STOP. If you believe SpaceX can come close to #NASA's knowledge, skillset, workforce or capabilities, to quote the title one of my old favorite video game quiz shows, You Don't Know Jack.

Musk and his army of dipshits on Twitter keep pointing to Bill Clinton’s federal worker reduction in the 1990s to defend Trump. The difference? Congress passed a law that Clinton signed, he didn’t just get the nearest billionaire to illegally start dismantling the government based on his whims.

Why couldn’t they torch the Constitution and the rule of law in service of something nice like the Metric system?

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

NASA is implementing fascist orders. If you use social media that they are on call them out on it. Email the acting administrator Janet Petro if you can find her email. She is demanding team names be changed if they have anything to do with DEI - plus all activities must ceased.

It would not shock me to see this number drop to even less, and possibly be completely avoided, as contract negotiations continue for the SLS rocket. The NASA appropriations bill being put forth looks to continue the vehicle well into its Block 1B and Block 2 variants.

USAID Fraud Allegations: Fact vs. Fiction Fact Inspector General’s Investigations: - USAID’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) actively investigates allegations of major fraud, corruption, and misconduct within its programs and operations, demonstrating accountability in addressing internal issues.

Exactly what I was thinking: This will be the Golden Age … of China. All they have to do is take over the most attractive programs being ceded by the U.S.

Weak men cannot compromise. Weak men cannot build consensus. Weak men think that leadership means force. Weak men build nothing that lasts.

I love this. This should be the symbol of the new rebel coalition.

The fact that we can always make gov’t more efficient doesn’t mean that Elon Musk, someone with conflicts of interest everywhere you look, should be running the show. Trump could have started with the inspectors general, whose job that is, but instead of empowering them, he fired them.

Gonna watch "From the Earth to the Moon" tonight to try to lift my spirits.

The doge bridge?

If true, we aren't going to the Moon or Mars for at least another 7 to 10 years.

If they cancel SLS outright, including Artemis 2 (which is all but ready) and 3, then we won't be on the Moon within this decade.

Exclusive: Trump Air Force nominee arranged satellite contract in manner that favored Musk's SpaceX, sources say www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

Trump’s anti-trans executive orders

An e-mail seen by NPR says the move is to comply with a presidential order to "restore biological truth" to the government.

Perhaps if he had not spent so much time playing video games so that he could be the #1 video game player he would know that the answer to this question is "All of them."

Elon Musk loves spinning false narratives. @brandononscience.bsky.social stopped by The Blathering yesterday to break through Musk's SpaceX lies. Missed the full episode? Here's our conversation. --> youtu.be/_LSJ2MFc5Dc

ISS commander Suni Williams, earlier this month: "It's just been a joy to be working up here."

Trolling or lying? Episode 5 of Space Program Writers' Room. The "new" plan to bring home the Starliner astronauts is the same as the old plan...

Debunking can be a fun way to find an audience in science communication, but I think it can be over-relied on. We should be celebrating more than we are defending, not just because it’s less miserable, but also because it’s good marketing!

WTF, man. arstechnica.com/space/2025/0...

I got a great birthday gift from my wife! 👨‍🚀

The drone thing has smelled like nothing to me the whole time. Iran isn’t trying to hide its drones by covering them in very bright lights. If Aliens wanted to be this obvious, they’d just make TikToks. I could be wrong, but I think people just get really freaked out by stuff in the sky.

At SFA Spacepower conf this am, Blue Origin's Lars Hoffman said they'll launch New Glenn "within the next few weeks." Vehicle's ready but "there's a process we have to follow to ensure that we're on a path to success." But it'll be "this year," "maybe for Christmas."

A 🧵Interesting paper by former NASA Administrator Mike Griffin, and Lisa Porter (published 10/24) former Associate Administrator for Aeronautics at NASA.
